I just had a new Luk clutch kit installed in my Corolla and it's like an on/off switch. Very hard to smoothly let it out in first gear without jerking/stalling. Is this normal and should it get better as it breaks in? The hydraulics are also all new and adjusted to spec.

Thanks

That's a little wierd; my new clutches have been "like butter" including several LUKs in saturns.

Oil or grease on the friction material will cause this. Either a leaky seal or too much used on the shaft splines.

If it's like every new clutch I have had, your foot needs to learn the new engagement position.

Dont be scared to ride it when at a standstill. I used to try to get out of the clutch as soon as possible to hopefully make it last as long as it can. But I dont think rough engagement to make the clutch last a few thousand more miles is of any benefit.

So,

You could bring it nto engagement and then begin learning the balancing act of the clutch pedal and the throttle instead of being in a hurry to release the clutch pedal.

Hope this helps!
