New Billion $ Dallas Cowboy Stadium

All societies eventually decline. There are far too many people in the USA too involved in materialism.

Look at all of those billion dollar buildings in Las Vegas. Did it ever occur to the gramblers that there can't be very many winning gramblers? The house has to win most of the time in order for all of that expensive stuff to be built.

There was a time (a long time ago) when pro football players were underpaid rather than overpaid. Today many receive salaries that are beyond belief. No human being deserves to make salaries like that unless you are talking about some incredible human being that is able to make an enormous amount of money on their own through their own ingenuity and industry.

It kind of makes me laugh when some team in pro football pays an incredible amount of money to some football player who turns out to be a complete dud or an underachiever. As I write this today the Philly Eagles beat the NY Giants. How much money does Jeff Garcia make compared to Eli Manning?

People are claiming that the Super Dome and the New Orleans Saints are helping New Orleans to recover. So maybe sometimes it works out. But if I see some city with a very fancy stadium and much of the rest of the city is in decay it makes me wonder where our priorities are.

YIKES!! Would some other worldly civilization come and rescue us?

The priorities are out of whack and I doubt the duperdome will help rebuild the ninth Ward.. folks living..scratch that, who used to live there can't afford tickets, jertseys and other NFL goods.
We are paving over our farms with strip malls and suburbs and real big issues with the water supply are going to be at hand.. Will the NFL help pay for all the public works improvements when alternatives to our filthy habits of flushing oour sewage "somewhere else" comes around to our faucet?
We have some real problems facing us yet we are pacified by entertainment that numbs the mind and keeps the populace from considering what's going on..f this worked out by chance or is is encouraged by the powers that be is an unknown but if this is a way to pacify the pubic, it is insidious and a true cycle to destruction.

Enough gloom and doom for one post. Glad the Eagles won, the Giants deserve everything they get. It has been a good football weekend.

Mystic,
back when I used to watch Aussie Rules football, things were way different to what they are now.

Th footballers had jobs (best ever footballer IMHO was a guy who was a landscape gardener by day). They trained hard a few evenings, and played hard Saturday. Picked up an extra 50 or 60k p.a. playing football (this guy was 1st grade at 15).

The footballers were role models for all of us kids (a bit like the racing drivers at the time also).

Now, they get 6 figures, have no other employment, and are involved in scandal after scandal, drug/booze filled brawls, rapes etc etc.

Same here. Same here. There would also be players playing the games who actually loved to play and made sacrifices to do so rather than having their asses kissed to please play.

Here's one for you, Obbop:

All those choice seats and boxes being deducted from the taxes of corporations and partnerships. And the taxpayer foots that bill as "entertainment expenses" So remember to wave at them, you're subsidizing it.

Have another cold one if you really think about it.

Europe is smart enough to subsidize music and the other arts. We subsidize infanitilized adults playing a kiddie game.

China and the developing world scare the #@$%! out of me because they want to be just like us!

To think that some philosophers and political scientists have adopted the concept (wrote books - Francis Fukuyama) of "the end of history" in the notion that capitalism, consumerism, the "free"

market, liberty, democracy............The United States..............is the ultimate society. In other words, this is the best that humanity/human civilization will get. Some even argue that war/human violence will cease when all of humanity becomes like the United States. It's a great theory on paper, as is the above list, but humans are humans. There's this thing called history...

Maybe I'm just a born pessimist and a cynic to the core. Things could sure be worse.........the Axis didn't win!

It amazes me that in places like Costa Rica, the sense of community on a fundamental level makes the United States look like an alligator pit.

Ahhhhhhhhh, tax season is right around the door (I work at a CPA office). The box seats that one of the partners and his son have at "INVESCO" field at Mile High in Denver is a nice deduction, and believe me, the more they use it, the lower their taxes are!

I know of one football player who should not be a role model for anybody. Terrill Owens of the Dallas Cowboys admitted spitting into another football player's face.

And it seems like an increasing number of football players are involved in all kinds of bad stuff. Of course, there are still players like Dunn who help other human beings.

If pro football keeps declining into a sewer I will find something else to do. As I get older quiet walks in the forests seem to mean more and more (what forests are left with all of the urban development-why do people from the eastern part of the country and other parts of the country move here anyway in such numbers?). As you approach the end of the trail the song of nature means more and more and the noise of the urban areas means less and less.

"Some even argue that war/human violence will cease when all of humanity becomes like the United States. "

Yes in a way that is true, because the Human race would collapse under that much consumption of natural resources. There are few people who know how to live without electricity , flush toilets and supermarkets with trucked in foods as it is...Increase that by a few billion and we are set up for population collapse, a very painfull one at that when energy sources are not as plentifull as the demand. All those box seat executives have a contingency and will have their luxuries for another generation and live literally like royalty...Most people will not have these luxuries and most of those do not have the neccesary skills to live without them. You want to see soft? See how many men can grow half an acre of food and provide for their family. How many women can take care of a house without running water or electricity? How many midwives in the neighborhood for when a women is birthing a child and the hospital is to far away without fuel for vehicles? We ignore these conveniences as if they will always be there, and cheer for the home team on the cable or satelite TV. Pacified and ignorant of the world around us in our heated and airconditioned environments eating out prepackaged meals we are infants suckling the teat of modern life. What happens at weaning time?

Bryanccfshr, you weren't listening in while I was talking to a guy at work at lunch time were you ?

Your post is even better than our discussion...'cept where he went on to a war between India and China for place to grow their people.

BTW, the last doctor in town who did home calls not so long ago had his licence removed for "overservicing" our elderly locals (who are mobility limited).

Our quarterback plays for the love of the game, we still have the same stadium, just remolded. Win or loose, we love our Packers. There sold out until the end of time.

A true sportsman no doubt. Favre should get some recognition for his career outside the Packers organization when he retires if there is any justice in the NFL. You cheeseheads are some great fans BTW.

The Packers, and Green Bay.............what a town! My dad grew up there; uncle/aunt, and many cousins live there still. I love it!

Bryan, when I bring up these things, 99.99999% of people, especially all the aspiring CPAs and CPAs I work with, think I'm out of my mind. Like I'm rooting for WWIII or something. They argue that times are the best they've ever been in the US, with low unemployment, a booming stock market, good economy etc. I try and keep quiet during the morning #@$%! fest about traffic/congestion/how rude drivers are/the big brown cloud that permanently hangs over the once beautiful Colorado front range. I love it when people talk about how the credit cards are maxed out and how awesome the drive to the ski slopes was last weekend in the new SUV, taught with voice activated navigation, DVD/TVs in the head rests etc. etc. etc. Things couldn't be better!!!!!!! Maybe the pessimists are wrong (ahhhhh, the irony), and by the looks of the tax returns I do, maybe it's just me and you. I'll say this, I don't know how are economy can support so many mortgage brokers making GOBS of money! Who knows...

People do not want to think that way. That would alter their life goals of getting more stuff and have them face a not so pretty reality. I am just out of that mode and still have the debt to prove it! I was a Rush limbough is right the CO2 emmissions are from volcanoes groupie..

I blame BITOG for teaching me to be more objective on subject matter. If a person is not wrapped up in their personal "wants' They can see the truth. Our desires get in the way of truth. You can't tell a person who depends on corn revenue for example, that if we continue to farm corn on his land it will become barren in a generation...or that he will empty an aquifer with his irrigation.. That goes agaisnt that persons "wants' which is a good income for today. The self absorbed optimists do not see what they don't want to.. it would get in the way of their dreams.
