So over the summer I traded my Thruxton RS for a Scrambler 1200 XE. I ride mainly secondary roads. I loved the thruxton, but it was beating me up too bad. I turned 64 in July. Great bike but definitely better for smooth roads, the scrambler just soaks it up. The Scrambler motor is pretty much the same as the Thruxton but slightly detuned.

Triumph Recommends their oil of course, 10W-50 or 10W-40, I used M1 Moto 10W-40. They also suggest 10K oil change or annual schedule. I'll be using the annual schedule.

They did a great job of mitigating the exhaust heat from the high pipes, the cats are in the mufflers, behind your legs. This was a recent change in 2022 or 2023. The cat used to be in the collector, right next to the engine.

Looks like fun. How does it compare to other adventure bikes? It looks more dirt bike-ish.
Obviously it doesn't offer much wind protection but I'm OK with that since I'm not riding long distances on the highway. I'm not sure it fits in the adventure bike category, there are other models that would be better for that use. It wouldn't make a good dirt bike either, it's heavy at 500 and some pounds.

Congrats.

I've been looking for a dual-sport or ADV type bike for a couple of years now. I simply can't decide what I want.

A small light bike, or a monstrosity like a GS1300 with all the hard cases and not a spec of dirt like you typically see parked at Starbucks...

My Tiger is tall as well. Even more so when I put a Corbin on it.

Nice looking bike. It should feel much better on the back roads. However, it cannot beat the beauty of the old one.
If you decide to run the stock viscosity, there are plenty of choices:

Motul

You are right, in my eyes as far as appearance the Thruxton had it hands down!

Beautiful Bike. Just bought a Speed Twin 1200 with the same motor.

Hope you’re enjoying your Scrambler. That Thruxton is a looker. I recently bought a ‘26 Rocket3 so searching old Triumph threads looking for oil info. Are there any used oil analysis on the Triumph full syn? I’ve searched but can’t find any. I’m currently locked into the dealer (and Triumph 15W-50) for another year due to pre-purchased discount service but beginning to anticipate DIY in another year or so. My dealer sells Triumph full syn for $17/L. It is advertised as ester based. The only after market oil I’ve found claiming ester basestock is Motul and it’s no cheaper than OE oil (do they make Triumph oil?). Based on my limited knowledge of ester based oils, it seems like something I’d like to stay with. My OCIs will be annual, probably in the 3000 mile range.
