Has anyone purchased any of the new Acoustic sound deadening tires. There are about six or seven manufacturers that are making them now I think Hankook and Michelin ones that come to mind.

What are your thoughts and comments on the sound deadening characteristics thanks in advance

In addition to Car and Driver not thinking very highly of them, the buying public doesn't seem interested as well. These tires only come as OE. There isn't a filled out line with many sizes. Only a few select sizes.

Anybody have a reason why these tires have different tread wear ratings? The tires with Pirellis PNCS seem to have a higher tread wear ratings.

Well I'm a glutton for trying new things. I drive a Toyota RAV4 with michelins. They're all right as long as the road is smooth. But when they wear out I probably will go up a small size and try these acoustic tires. I know Honda has added that dampening to the inside of their wheels as well as using the Hankook acoustic tires and I test drove one of those and it was very quiet. I just wasn't very fond of the new hybrid complexity in their cars being a first year for them. Plus there's no spare tire. But it was impressive on the quietness in the cabin. Thanks for the links that was very informative.

I see it as marketing, the car may be quiet when rolls from dealer lot but will stay that way only till tire change.
I'm sure cars will be advertised as super quiet but at extra cost built into price.
