One thing to keep in mind is that in general, as the specs get tighter, it tends to squeeze out any real differences between oils. Take Chrysler ATF+4 for example. The spec is so tight that there's effectively no difference whatsoever between brands (I think maybe they require a specific additive package).
And the modern-day VW specs are fairly tight as oil specs go, especially if the oil has to meet several of them. So I suspect the differences between LiquiMoly, Total, Mobil 1, Castrol and all the rest of the VW-approved oils are so minor as to be inconsequential.
API SN is a much less tight spec, so there's a lot more room for differences between oils.

Yes, which is way to high for PAO.
That is example that final product is what matters, not base stock.

Motul is expensive over here in Australia. Almost as much as redline. Pretty much making it a wank factor oil. If it were similar in price to castrol, it would be a different story.
If castrol edge is cheaper or mobil1 is cheaper, then go for those. They are as good as per the results users on this forum frequently post.

0W40 is not discontinued. Castrol was always sketchy with pds info.

Like I said earlier I was just going by what the tuners were using so I figured if this is what they chose to sell it must a a good oil. If any oil meets their spec (VW) I will use the one that's readily available. Motul and the liqui moly are readily available through mail order. Castrol is my oil of choice for many years in my mustang and my new camaro. In my mustang edge would not burn off as much as the other oils during the change interval. Platinum and syn power would need oil added during the interval. Not edge. I will see if my Walmart carries 0w40. If it does I may try it. If it does not it cheaper to go mail order with the motul. Obviously my findings with Castrol in my other vehicles has no bearing in the gti but it's worth a try.

Tuners carry Motul & Liqui Moly b/c of marketing. They will never compete with WalMart/Amazon/Costco on price, so they can't carry and overcharge for Mobil 1 and Castrol. "German" oils, allow them to sell boutique to customers. All about marketing and not performance. That's all.
Definitely grab some Castrol 0w40. You can look for it online and see if your local WalMart has it for a good price. Same with M1.
