They will sell quite a few if they keep the price around the numbers they are now.

MPG is 26 HWY.

Take care, bill

Subaru makes some really cool vehicles. Except that new WRX. I see big rebates in their future.

They sell every vehicle they inport here mostly at listed RRP. Seven out of the top ten vehicles for holding resale value are Subes. Safest vehicle (Liberty/Outback) on the planet, ANCAP rating 35.52 out of the maximum 37.

Yeah, I noticed that too on the guage picture. While the computer will do an admirable job monitoring low and high temperatures for you, I still like visible guages.

Don't like the shape of the Impreza in the base or WRX version.

A tad better than my 1991 caprice wagon.

But not as good as my 2004 Mazda3. My 1987 Grand Am got better mileage too, but my 1998 Pathfinder got far worse mileage. The 1978 Wagoneer I drove when I was 16 got even worse mileage, but the 1986 Chevette that followed did much better. My girlfriend's 1993 MX-6 also gets better mileage. My friend's 2004 Dodge Ram 3500 gets far worse mileage. Another friend of mine has a 2003 Mazda Tribute that gets worse mileage, and his girlfriend's 2005 Mazda3 gets slightly better mileage, though not as good as mine because it's the 4 speed auto. Another friend with a 1997 Acura . . .

What is listed as EPA is lot different than actuality. What is listed EPA of your vehicle adjusted for current #'s?

Theres a nice picture of that horizontal engine.

Look at the sandwich adapter for the oil filter. YES thats where it will weep oil in a short duration of time. Look at the crank pulley and cam sprocket yes thats where it will weep oil too!!! Even new subies seem to EAT oil seals.

commonly the tensioner pulley threads strips because of how the tension is put on the pulley. To take the tension off the pulley the bolt must be released because its hard to remove the pully due to hydraulic tensioner. As the tensioner pops off they strip the threads. I've seen it several time now!!

I know 1 customer that got thier engines rebuilt because the piston skirts collapsed x2 pistons (less than 100,000km). Apparently this happens from time to time. This is the flat 4 subaru thats driven as a commmuter. I guess mommy must be hard on the car when she gets groceries.

Resale value is always low for subies for some reason.

I've worked on a fair share of them and dont like the oil leaking problems. Its odd for a japanese make to have oil leaks as part of "nature of the product"

Dad has 99 Forester 2.5L. Has 98,000 miles and just got a 2900 repair bill for head gasket, two pistons, and a new radiator.

And at 80,000 he had to replace two front wheel bearings. I thought Subies were very good in reliability. Have heard that piston slap and head gaskets are common problems on these Foresters. Needless to say, my dad was [censored] at a 2900 repair bill.

ej25's up until 2003 are notorious headgasket eaters. Your dad would have better spent the money swapping in an ej22 and enjoy a bullet proof motor. My ea82 leaks some oil, but it still gives me all of it's 90hp and I fear the motor will long outlast the rest of the car.

That's too bad about the head gasket problem and the piston slap that was so loud you could hear it inside. We are now wondering what repair will be next. How stout are the automatic transmissions in these? Pretty soon he is going to have a brand new car...piece by piece.

Subarus are hugely popular where I live. They're all over the place. I've known a lot of people with them, many were on their 2nd, 3rd, or 4th. From what they, and the mechanics I know tell me, they are reliable, repair records are good, and the 2.5 liter Boxer 4 cyl. is a top notch engine. My wife drives an 03 Forester and its the best motor vehcile we've ever had, and we've gone through a lot of motor vehicles, starting back in the late 50's. I especially like the superb all-wheel drive, which outperforms any 4-wheel drive that I've owned.

I guess it takes all kinds...

My Subaru SVX (purchased new in 1992) has 150K miles, gets 25-29 mpg on regular on the freeway, 20+ in town, has had the timing belt & all front oil seals (cam, crank, oil pump, etc.)replaced @120K and previous cam belt changes as per the 60K recommended service interval. Water pumps @ 60K, too. And hoses. Radiator at 100K. Tranny service with filter every 30K or better.

I've replaced the valve cover gaskets at 140K. Replaced & resealed the power steering system above the rack. New front rotors. I got almost 55K miles on my last set of 225/50-VR16 tires and the new H-rated ones are guarranteed for 80K miles witha pro-rated road hazzard warranty as well.

It had a tranny replacement under factory warranty at 56K.

It uses no oil between changes, tranny fluid looks like new. Coolant is clean. The car is gonna' be 16 years old, drives like it was new, best snow vehicle I've ever owned. It could easily go for another 16 years, not "16K"...

Totally acceptable design except for rear wheel bearings...

Only car I had needing less service or what I consider "normal" repairs (like brakes, pumps, belts, filters, gaskets, etc.) on was the Original 1986 Accura Legend.

Almost all Subaru's are ALMOST idiot proof if properly serviced, the older designs almost tractor-like in their ruggedness.

I happen to like the new WRX and the absolute $leeper car around is an Impreza 4-door 5-speed: $16,051 + $218 lic. & title fee in last Sat.'s paper

All-wheel drive, 170hp, 170lbs/ft, 3,050 lbs. You only need the AWD if you happen to live somewhere where it rains or snows.
