Someone just asked on another forum that his wife said his 6.7 cummins was shaking at idle and wanted to know what kind of spark plugs it needed. Pretty sure the guy was actually serious too. Makes me wonder how many people buy a diesel and then treat it like a gas engine and never do anything to it maintenance wise. I bet it's never had a fuel filter change in the 100k he claims it has on it.

Definitely Champion spark plugs!!

But maybe he meant glow plugs.

Many diesels you can drain the fuel filter of water without changing it.

One never knows. They might be trolling, or just not knowledgeable. One can argue all they want on this site--but I bet most of us couldn't rebuild an automatic transmission to save our lives. Where's the line between not enough knowledge and just right? Should one know how to balance the chemical reaction that occurs during combustion before being allowed to turn the key?

That said... pretty sad. Big investment, yet clueless on what is required to keep it running. Hopefully they just take it to the dealer every 5k.

Now he asked me what a fuel filter was, so I think he was just trying to get a rise out of people.

Sounds like they have their own GHT at that site. I do enjoy helping people that buy diesels to at the very least maintain them so they get the longest life out of them.

I think you have less to maintain on a diesel than a gas engine. Just change the fuel filter, oil and air filter occassionally and that's about it. Gas engines, you have spark plugs and coil packs that go out and all that nonsense.

I'm guessing none because the WIF sensor should have gone off. It is probably just a very full fuel filter...

Just my $0.02
I've heard they don't really work good. All it is are two prongs that complete the circuit when water goes in between, so I don't see why it wouldn't work.

Eventually the filter element will crush like a beer can from the restriction
I suspect the engine will throw a code for low fuel rail pressure before that. When my truck gelled up in 2019 I had codes and the engine ran like 💩. The filter looked just fine when removed.

Just my $0.02
