7018 isn't needed for this and only recently have the came up with AC version of 7018 plus they need to be kept in an oven. If you clean the rust off the area to be welded and you are relatively flat go with 6013. I think 6011 is supposed to be used with DC but I might be thinking about 6010.


6011 stick rods can be used on DC or AC. If on AC then you would need to turn the amps down by about 10% from DC. Either way, with 6011 rods you get very good penetration.

Also 6010 rods need to be run on DC.

Here is the tailgate whose main platform needs a new floor


Here are a couple of views of the bottom of the platform




The existing floor is 1/8 in thick and the guys who use the truck every day do not want the new floor to be 3/16 in thick because it will lead to a step of 1/16 in and every step matters when they are moving heavy items like pianos and safes. So I will have to stay with 1/8 in and add some reinforcements at the bottom like the original. Perhaps angle iron, I haven't thought his through, right now I am focusing on improving my welding skills. It will be weeks before I do the actual job.
