This same issue occurs in bmw x drive units, ive been applying moly antisieze from loctite or moly lit for ages now on a number of them and they are working great.
The original setup is dry and becomes a rusty dust in about 60000 - 100000 miles or so.
Honda goldwings and boxer bmw bikes suffer the same in the rear wheel driver, the moly paste eliminates this.
I also use that in cars that have a similar stub shaft, e.g. mazdas and hondas - the wear issue becomes a thing of the past. (A very good cleaning is required first and a good application with a brush so all splines are coated, dont just dab it on)
