My local wal marts have in store brand that is yellow and other extended lifes. I have some older vehicles that I want the good old green. I feel more comfortable using it. I also want to use the best green. What are good brands and where do you find it?

If you want "green," try the "Valucraft" brand from AutoZone. It comes in a white container unless they've changed it.

Just got off the phone with a local truck stop. They have Texaco in a black bottle. Only a mile from my house, is this any good? Another shell gas station close by seems to have a peak brand they claim is green, both about the same price. Which is better.

My autozone is not close by.

Yeah, I forgot about the PEAK fluid. I think most of the "green" coolant should be about the same.

I will hopefully be doing this shortly, with only two choices, which is better, peak or texaco? Like I said penny;s difference.

Critic, high silicate coolant no longer exists. Go to either the Texaco or Zerex site to see that even the conventional "green"coolants are now low silicate.

Ignoring the import coolants, in the U.S. we have "Conventional", G05, and Dexcool. There are also some "fits all brands" universal concoctions and diesel ready conventionals with SCA.

Color means nothing. John Deere G05 coolant is green.

If, indeed, you are looking for the "old style", conventional coolant:

Speedway sells Zerex conventional. Motorcraft has conventional

Texaco has conventional, but at least two products are in black bottles:

Peak products confuse me. They have a lot of "fits all brands" concoctions compared to Zerex's 3 basic types (check their site).

Last time I looked, the Tractor Supply (TSC)house brand was also a green, low silicate conventional type.

I prefer the name brands (my nature), but I bet the house brands are the same quality product, probably made by name brand companies.

I was going to say use the old faithful Prestone

http://www.prestone.com/products/antifreezeCoolant.php

but it looks like they dont make the old stuff anymore???

maybe this stuff

O'Rielly's brand is "old green" as is the Valucraft from Autozone as previously mentioned.

The traditional Prestone Yellow jug is green inside no more.
It is a all makes all models NO silicate/phosphate product now.
Zerex and Peak both make the "traditional" green, but as has been mentioned, they have a lower content than in years past...so the settling out should not be an issue.
It is NOT long life, but will work perfectly when used for the recommended time.
Peak and Zerex BOTH have excellent websites that will fill you in fully on coolant information.
Also, they will picture the different jugs, so you will be able to easily pick them out as you scan the coolant section at the store.
I have found that the clerks at the auto part stores tend to know very little about the coolant products on their shelves, so it is in your best interest to research and pick your products before going to the store.

I recommend the Texaco antifreeze.

Not knocking the Peak antifreeze, but the Texaco is one of the original "tried and true" green coolants. It has been around a long time and I've found it super reliable and trouble free.

Unfortunately, the price of antifreeze has doubled recently.

I have done a little searching myself and discovered CarQuest carries the green anti-freeze.

I purchased a case. It appears to be just like the old Prestone. So far, I am very pleased.

That new stuff looks very impressive, and SCA pre-charged to boot! I'll have to get me some of that next time around! By the way, what does "SCA pre-charged" mean?

I've been using the Texaco HD in those old apps, pre organic acids, assuming since nothing says long-life or anything on the bottle. I also use G-05 in the old cars, never have a problem.
