Need thick oil? 40w70

What kind of engine is this?

Nitro engines (blown versions and injected versions) use straight 70. And I'm pretty sure blown alcohol engines such as TA/D and Pro Mod run 60 or 70 grade.

You can buy straight 40 on clearance at AAP, haven’t seen the gas rated stuff like that in a very long time.

In the hot desert straight 50 was recommended, grandfather had some left over for an old VW.

Getting stable thick detergent oils used to be considered an innovation, I’ve never seen beyond 60wt but there is no reason even higher can’t exist.

Funny reading the below

Oils has developed Race Blend 70 to fully satisfy the demands placed upon highly worked big block race engines.
  • Multigrade properties with the addition of flow enhancers ensures fast oil flow during cold starts.
  • Group II hydrocracked high viscosity base oils ensures maximum protection of all moving parts especially oversized bearings under high load conditions.
  • The addition of zinc dialkyldithiophosphate protects cams against the abrasive action of flat tappets.
  • The addition of specially selected synthetic polymers ensures all upper engine parts retain a protective oil film, even after periods of non-use.
  • High viscosity properties reduce the effect of lubricant thinning where methanol fuels are used.

Well it turns out that it is an iron head 454 with a 3/4 race cam. (translation blaa bla bla race parts in a stock compression smog engine makes me sound like I know stuff).
I bet this engine never sees anything near 5000 rpm so the cheapest 10w30 will be fine in this application. I will not pursue trying to get this into Canada for him.

I don't know, those 3/4 race cams are crazy. :ROFLMAO:
