Need some advice.

I have a 99' civic si with the vtec engine 8,200 rpm redline (milage 103,000) and have been using chevron supreme 5w30 along with lc20 for a while now! For some reason my engine seems to be a little noisier lately and I am thinking about switching to havoline 10w30 or chev. supreme 10w30 to see if that will quiet it down a little bit!

I live in the Seattle WA area and it really never gets all that cold + my car is garaged 99% of the time, since my owners manual recommends 5w30 would it be ok to go to a 10w30??

A friend of mine said that 10w30 would actually be better for my car since it has high milage (is this true)?

I have run (2) auto-rx treatments and have been using the lc20 for aprox. 7 oil changes.

Check your owners manual again. I'd be willing to bet you there is a chart in the oil section that shows that 10/30 is ok from ZERO degress on up. Go check really quick and let us know if it's in there. YOu should be fine if that's the case.

Stop the LC 20 temporarily & try a high mileage oil like Pennzoil or Castrol for two OCIs. I would stick with 5w30. Alot of em' are cSt@100 thicker than 10W-30.

Maybe it's time for a valve adjustment?

Maybe it's time to check that owners manual and see if the temp chart shows you can use 1o/30 so that you can stop worrying about using that weight of oil

If it were mine, I'd run a treatment of AutoRx and switch to Havoline 10w-30. You'll be good to go. Valve adjustment might be needed also as said above.

Well I had a major service done at the dealership at 90,000 miles which included (valve adjustments).

It's odd, in the moring when I start my car the engine seems to be ok but when the car's warmed up after driving 10 + miles I hear a light tapping noise only during idol (thinking mabey an injector is going bad but it's so close to the back of the valve cover I really can't tell). Now if I only drive say a mile or two like if I'm just going to get gas or something it really doesn't make the tapping noise.
