Need oil recomendation for 100k oil binger

Hi guys, I'm about 1k miles from changing my oil and filter again and I would love to let you guys choose which of these choices of oil I shall use next.

Be advised that I live in Europe, so many American oils are not available here.

1. Car is a 1.8 litre Renault Laguna mk1, 1997, 95 bhp with 111k miles that usually drinks up about 4 quarts of oil every 6k miles (quantity has decreased maybe half a quart in the last 2 oil changes). Last oils used were Shell Helix HX7, BP 5000 and Castrol Magnatec. All 10w40. I change oil every 6k miles.
2. Owner's manual only asks for oil that meets API SH
3. Temperatures in my area vary from 17 fahrenheit in the Winter to 100+ in the Summer.
5. 70% of my mileage is on the highway and I do about 11k miles a year.

Try Valvoline NextGen MaxLife.

I'd get some 15w40 HDEO truck oil for that burner. I've seen it for cheap in Europe, probably the cheapest thing they have at most rest stops/gas stations in France and Germany which are the closest nearby comparisons that I have personally seen. You live in Portugal, so I doubt you see a lot of freezing weather. I was in Spain right around New Year's 2011 so I assume the winter climate in Portugal is similar or warmer.

Usually HDEO has a high TBN, so you should't have a problem running it 6K.

Choosing from the other oils you mentioned, I'd go with the cheapest if it were me.

In my area it goes from 17 fahrenheit in the winter to 100+ in the summer.

I've read that using HDEO oils in engines that burn oil can be devastating to the catalytic converter...

Wouldn't I just be asking for trouble if I change a 111k miles engine that has always used 10w40 and that burns 4 quarts every 6k to a 0w40 full synthetic?

I am tempted to try that one or Liqui Moly's. I am however a bit afraid of the effect of those seal swellers of conditioners and if they could make the oil burning even worse...

How does it consume the oil, steadily during the OCI or closer to the end of it?
I would be tempted to try a cheap engine flush at the next oil change and use a 5w-40 full synthetic or 0w-40 price permitting. Mobil 1 0w-40 has a relatively high HTHS viscosity which combined with a low NOACK might help with consumption.

Is there piston soak products out there? Alot of people with oil burners have had good results with them. I would try a High Mileage oil if you can find one out there. Mobil has a good one.

I would use a dino with your perpetual oil change vehicle.
The 15-40 versions [HDEO] would be my first choice.

Those 2 first oils I mentioned (the Valvoline and the Liqui Moly) claim to be High Mileage oils. The Mobil 1 is impossible to find here.

I would say that it consumes more oil closer to the end of the OCI.

I am tempted to try a flush and full synthetic oil, but I am very afraid from some of those horror stories I've read about flushes and about changing to synthetic after lots of miles on synthetic blend.

I`d say Maxlife or an HDEO.

I'd try the Valvoline MaxLife, of the oils you listed. At least it should be easier on your cat, since you're concerned with that. You may have to try it over a couple OCIs before you see results, though.

I'd agree to be cautious with flushes.

Maxlife is great oil for high mileage cars. Even better for older leaky/drinky ones!

Now, my truck isn't leaking oil, and is rather spotless inside, but I just put in NextGen Max Life. I just switched over every fluid in my truck to Valvoline to be honest. I wanted to help conserve resources, and get a great oil. My brother apparently has been using Max Life NextGen for a while, and really likes it a lot. There are great deals going on with it as well.
