Need an oil filter

I will be helping (correction... performing) a friend change the oil and filter on his work van this Friday.

The van is a '99 Dodge Caravan with the 3.3. I looked at the Mopar MO-090 yesterday and for ~$6, I wasn't all that impressed. I'm sure it's a fine filter, but the price IMO wasn't justified. I am leaning towards using the Purolator L14670 which is reasonable when it is ~$3.50.

Also I'm interested in using a Motorcraft filter, preferably if one has a silicone ADBV. Anyone use MC filter on a 3.3 Dodge?

that's good price for pure1, i use often or the classic . mobil 1, bosch, k&n, napa gold/platinum if in oil change special. Walmart has fram ultra sorta cheap.
I have used mopar 090 before and cut open with 6k miles, looked good. I think had thread end bypass if remember correctly

You can use a Motorcarft FL842, a Fram Tough Guard TG16, heck you can get a Fram Ultra XG16 for about $6 off Rockauto. Also a Wix 51085 fits that engine.

I do not believe the MC FL842 has a silicone ADBV, otherwise it would be a "FL842S"

I wouldn't buy K&N oil filters anymore or recommend them unless you are getting MADE in the USA old stock filters, the new ones stink. Check out the post by Motorking in this thread.

I have 1 filter for all 12 of my Mopars. Motorcraft FL1-A. Well almost all, my 2013 GC uses that little cartridge.

Nothing wrong with that Mopar but its nothing special and I agree a horrible value.

You won't find a direct Motorcraft cross easily available, but I often use a FL-400s in its place which will work great IF you have room (its a bit longer).

Any PH16 equivalent is the Mopar direct cross. The Classic L14670 you mentioned is a good economical pick.

If you have room the FL-1A already mentioned will work great as well.

RockAuto lists the Motorcraft FL-842 for this. Not sure how direct of a fit is is though.

I think the direct Motorcraft cross for the Mopar MO=090 is an FL-300 IIRC. They technically exist but they're as scarce as Bigfoot.
