Should I go used or new? My 98 Civic EX (equal to DX in the US) needs its exhaust manifold/catalytic converter replaced. It's got a nice crack right by the front O2 sensor which I have read was rather common on D16Y7 engines. I did some eBay searching and found a new one (Chinese I assume) for $190 shipped. Canadian Tire lists one for $218, but I didn't think to ask if the cat converter is included. I might be able to find a good uncracked one in a junkyard, would that be a good choice or should I go with the new one instead?

Can the crack be brazed? I have had pretty good luck doing that. Just a cheap option to consider if you have a set of torches and are handy at brazing.
When the manifold cracked on our 1998 Civic EX around 150k miles I bought a replacement from RockAuto. The factory manifold is thin and light compared to the replacement, I forgot the brand.
If you weld the OEM manifold, it will start cracking elsewhere. The problem is the your DX engine has the Cat & Manifold as one whole unit.
