Need Advice on New Car Purchase

I need some advice on a possible trade.
I’m one of those horrible people who owns and drives a SUV
I bought a new Explorer in 1992 and it now has 22,000 miles on it.

I replaced the Firestone tires with Michelin and it is kept in a garage so it runs and looks like new.
Last year I run 10 gallons of gas through this vehicles for the whole year of 2007

Now I read how terrible it is that I’m wasting fuel driving my big SUV but I want to do what is best for me financially
My Explorer gets 21mpg so if I buy a motorized skateboard the gets double the mileage or 42mpg I would save 5 gallons of gas per year.

Here is my problem that I need help with.
Payment on Explorer $00.00 New Skateboard $ 299.00 per month
Indiana license plate $ 25.00 New Skateboard $400.00 for first year
PL-PD Insurance $ 60.00 per year New Skateboard $450.00 per year
Indiana sales tax none New Skateboard 7% of Selling price
Haul what I buy at store home New Skateboard Pay $ 40.00 delivery charge

Should I trade vehicles ???
If you were me would you buy the new Skateboard

Hold on to it for twenty years, keep it original and sell it at Barett-Jackson for more than the original sticker.

I believe it would be wise to hold out for one of the new diesel or solar powered skateboards, otherwise you may find yourself right back in the situation you are in now, several years down the road.

I never thought about that.
That sounds like a good idea.
I keep it waxed and it really does look just like new

If I were in your situation I'd avoid the skateboard and buy an old Geo Metro for $7300, hold onto it until oil prices hit $500 a barrel (should happen this fall), and then sell it for $30,000.

The Chinese have perfected solar powered roller skates. They come standard with air conditioning. Air bags are optional.

If you buy the Rosie O'Donuts model you'll have room for five in them.

Well if I do the math like you outline I'm way ahead keeping the SUV but that leaves me a terrible person burning 10 gallons of precious resources.
I don't want to be a terrible person I would like to get a Yaris and drive it 30K per year like so many others do and feel soooo Superior because I'm not using up resources like those awful people who drive a SUV.

I don't understand. Why can't you just buy things that come disassembled in smaller pieces? That way you can haul it home from the store in 5-10 trips in your new yaris.

I didn't realize the Yaris has an optional switch to put it in 100+ MPG mode. It must come in the $10,000 supersaver option package.
