For the cost, Mansfield have been good and are made in USA. I have had both their builder grade and more expensive ($150ish) ones. Easy to replace parts, too, if needed.

Standard lever on the left or button in the middle?

Single flush or dual flush?

I was going to buy Glacier Bay at Home Depot. ???? Fine? Or another?

Comments?

I have a Home Depot Glacier Bay one piece tank and bowl, dual flush in one of my bathrooms. So far so good. I never use the lower volume flush, because the larger volume flush is only 1.6 GPF. It has a pretty forceful flush. I don't know and don't care how many golf balls or kids toys it can flush. But I haven't had to use a plunger yet. I originally bought 2, but had to return one because the nit wit builders who built my house, managed to only allow 10" between the drain and wall in my other bathroom. So I was forced to purchase a 10" rough in toilet to get it to fit. It's the conventional single flush, lever on the tank type. You don't get too many choices with 10" toilets. I was lucky to get the colors to match.

I like the Glacier Bay, and I wouldn't hesitate to purchase another if I had to. The cartridge 2 flush canister is easy to change out, and all Home Depot stores stock them because Glacier Bay is their brand. There are You Tube videos showing how quick and easy they swap out.

One other thing I would mention that I found out using these button controlled, dual flush toilets. They are designed to push the button, and immediately release it. It then goes through it's flush cycle. I found if you hold the button down for a couple of seconds you will get more than 1.6 gallons. Along with a longer, more forceful flush. My one piece tank and bowl is pretty large volume wise. It's good to know if you end up with more than you bargained for in the bowl.... If you know what I mean.

+1

I actually shopped toilets to make sure I bought Made in USA.

Just got two Mansfield Pro Fit (contractor/builder type) elongated bowl models from Menard's and had a plumber install them in that house we bought last month and are getting outfitted to move in. $105/ea after rebate. I don't know what brand the existing toilets were but one thing I don't like is foot print of the Mansfield doesn't match where the old toilets contacted the floor on back area and there is an etched shadow or outline from the old toilets on the tile.

The reason we replaced the existing ones was mainly because the prev owners appeared to have cleaned only the more visible areas of the fixture and up under the rim seemed to have some perma-funk. We likely could've scrubbed it clean with enough effort and the right cleaner but cr@ppers are a rather personal item and so we decided that it was an inexpensive upgrade that would help make the house feel more "ours."

I ended up getting a Jacuzzi brand toilet (who knew?) at Lowes for $179. It is VERY nice, and compares in quality to toilets at twice the price.

I had a Jacuzzi 2 button, one piece, put in a year ago. It has outstanding flushing, and the one piece looks very nice. Highly recommend it...mine came from Lowes also.

I'm old school. I don't want buttons or electronic gadget toilets. Much prefer a traditional toilet that flushes well and only requires a hold-down of the lever to gain another quart or two when needed once a day.

I don't need any stinkin' toilet seat that goes down by itself either.

Get a tall one with an elongated bowl and a pneumatic seat that you can remove easily to clean around the back of the lid. That extra inch or so in height is amazing when you are getting down and getting up.

Absolutely True. But you could get a little stool to put your feet on while you are pooping and still use a higher bowl.

I was going to say basically the same thing....you can get a branded item like a Squatty Potty or a small stool to generate the same effect while maintaining the benefit of the taller seat height.

Personally, I'd start with the taller seat height and not let a lower toilet seat height dictate a physiologically correct uhhh...evacuation when a well designed or thought out stool height can do pretty much the same thing.

I'll play devils advocate on this whole, "lower is better" theory when taking a dump. I lived with the lousy, too low builder grade toilets my home came with for almost 15 years, and I hated them. The new one's I replaced them with are much higher, and far more comfortable. And neither I or my wife, (we are both tall people), have any issues going on them. It's not necessary to take a dump with your knees up to your chin. It you find it is, you need to get your lower G.I. examined by a Gastro Intestinal Specialist. Or else starting eating more fiber.

And you shouldn't have to attend yoga classes to properly take a dump. Another thing that's a PITA are round bowls. Why anyone would choose them over a nice elongated bowl is beyond me. I could possibly understand why someone would select a round model for a planter in front of their doublewide. But not to take a dump on, and be forced to push your equipment through the front, because there's no room. Might be OK for women however.

All this reminds me of a Vietnamese guy I used to work with. We would always find his footprints on the toilet seat after he went in to pee. We confronted him about it, and he told us he could pee better. He said he did the same thing at home, and his wife was always complaining about it. He never explained how having the extra altitude helped the process. Some people can over complicate anything.

Looks like he could have used one of these.

Do they let you test it out before you buy it?

Oh, it goes further than that. They also come with a night light built-in I guess under the rim or I don't know where, but it supposed to aid the process of using the toilet when in the middle of the night I guess.
