Need a CV, Tie Rod Ends, And Ball Joints...

Happy 4Th!.. The org 105K mile oldsmobile is showing its "Age" more so then miles, as all 4 dust boots are blown(maybe someone at jiffy lube over filled them) and my drivers side CV boot is not even around anymore... ugh... This goes along with it also needing 4 shocks & brakes..

So, looking around on Rockauto.com, i see

A-1 CARDONE Part # 601004 Reman. Front Left CV Half Shaft Assembly.

RAYBESTOS Part # 5051073B Service Grade Front Suspension; Lower Ball joint(X2)

Steering : Tie Rod RAYBESTOS Part # 4011230B Service Grade
Outer(X2)

Suspension : Stabilizer Bar Bushing
MEVOTECH Part # MK6267 {#K6267} Package Quantity As Shown In Image (Only 8 Remaining)W/ 22MM (7/8") BAR; TO FRAME; Front Although i dont know what size the sway bar really is? 22, 24, 26, 28 MM? Im guessing its the smaller one as it does not have a handing package or anything.

Am i missing anything? Im going to pick up the front and rear shocks, and brakes at autozone, or advanced... But, Should i get all the parts from a chain store? Duralast Tie rods, are $31 each, Lower ball joints @ $25/each. Im driving this car over 3,000 miles a month, so age should not take out these items.. The car feels a little worn, handles like its a brick, and kills all 4 tires in 7,000 miles!

Oh, that reminded me, i should get a rear alinement kit also.. Both rear tires will wear the outer 1/2 of the tires bald in 7K. The fronts the insides, and outsides wear out before the center.. even at 36PSI.. again in 7K miles..

Would i need anything else such as washers/gaskets, special tools, maybe i should replace other parts also? Looking thru the factory service manual, it seems straight forwarded, but i would like to hear from people who have used autozone/rockauto parts, and have not had them fall apart.. I would get it all online. I have not had good luck with az parts lately. Their axles are junk. 1 year max. You can get rock parts or parts off ebay for usually half price or less +no tax. .. I do like cardone in some applications . The struts are a bear unless you have a good spring compressor. i would buy complete assemblies or even in new york you have MAC auto. either on ebay or I call them direct.

Did you look to see if Advanced Auto has coupon codes? It will save you some serious dough with all those items.
Don't forget a wheel alignment when your done!

Are you planning on doing this all yourself? If not, I'd consult with a local mechanic (whether it be a chain, independent, or a dealer....don't really matter, just one you can trust...) and see what they would charge for parts/labor, and then a quote/estimate for LABOR only.....

Some shops will "cut a deal" if you go through THEIR parts guy, some won't......


If you're doing it yourself, then just go with rockauto....

I'd go for moog parts where I could. For the CVs, try to get non-Chinese parts if the car is worth keeping. The cheap ones grind into the case hardening, and create really fast wear compared to original parts...

im looking at about 40K a year or better, so if it last 1.5 years. im doing good. it has no rust, paint is just Ok... no real options.. but its so easy to work on,(love that 3.3!) parts are cheap, and they are knock on wood reliable so i have a hard time deep sixen it. still think its worth the moog parts?

Im going to be doing this work myself, with the 1700 page service manual, BITOG, and some hand tools!.

It should be fun...

I might just so that... buy everything online via advanced, use some of these great codes, and save a whole load of cash, maybe the alinement will be free.

Thanks for the links. I replaced all 4 shocks on the buick using the AZ rent a tool compressor.. iffy at best, but it worked... I think im going to give them an call, the online catalog seem to be down... AZ parts im still unsure on, but if its more time then mileage that kills them, then i should be good...

Its fun doing 70-75, and you hit some unexpected pavement with dips, not potholes, but dips.. both hands on the wheel, its a ride. front shocks might be blown, and just the springs are doing the support. It almost looks unsafe from other drives prospective lol..
