Need a better oil filter for my Zero Turn

Been using DELO 5w40 HDEO in all my OPE, warm weather use anyway, and nothing but praise for it. For the price it's hard to beat. T6 always was, and still is, my 2nd choice.

For finer filtration you might look at Microgreen. I was thinking about ordering two, except I have so many other brands waiting in line now. They have a website and can order direct with free shipping on two. I used to think it sounded hokey, but actually they look pretty good and for your relatively small oil quantity and flow they should last a long time and keep the oil much cleaner.

I ended up going with a Fram XG3614. Fits perfectly with plenty of room, and was $9 at the local Wally World. Several others have been mentioned, and i've taken note of a couple others to try. Considering what Kawasaki recommends, this is a definite step up in size, quality, and filtration capabilities.

I am not certified in oil filter cutting, but I am now a certified oil filter OCD case or "nut", as I just ordered two Microgreen 101-1's even though I have plenty of filters. $29.95 with free shipping and no tax. I just like what they say on the website. The 101 has the 3/4-16 thread but is actually the taller version I prefer for my Toyota. It fits a lot of mower engines, including my Robin engine.

This is just an assumption, but I wonder how many OEM filters are constructed with bottom of the barrel media. I am also betting the main reason they are pricey is because of the name. Kawasaki, Kohler, Kubota etc.

That said, any entry level filter will be just fine.

dlundblad - i'm guessing it would be pretty scary if we really knew what some of these were made of. When you're paying for a name, you're often not paying for quality. Not in all cases, but many.

Thats not what he asked. He asked what better quality filter would fit his mower. Your post was no help at all.

I have the same interest, i have kawa 651v also. I am curious about this as well. I asked this here some time back and the two i heard the most mentioned were the fram 3614 and the purolator 10241. I have not tried either yet.

I will try one of them next season, probably the fram ultra version of the 3614.


I have a 14hp Kawasaki on my John Deere. Been using the Purolator 10241 for the last three yearly oil changes. II haven't cut one up yet But would like to try a different brand.

Kohlers latest and greatest super duper industrial PRO yellow $$$ filter is a champ ecore...that right there in itself tells me a $2 filter is fine for OPE.....SHOZ..I have a few of them cut in my previous posts and many other oem and aftermarket 3614/6607 size filters that we use everyday on OPE the 10241 is the fram 3614 size/cross...take ur pick on what brand/how cheap u wanna get..

Yep....as long as they are the 20x1.5 thread I use the 6607 type/style....the older engines were 3/4x16 though.

So far I really like the Fram Ultra. A little longer but still plenty of space. Will stick with these from now on.
