Hello all. My Zero Turn has a Kawasaki FR651V engine, which uses a Kawasaki 49065-7007. Crosses to a NAPA 1056, Wix 51056, or a Fram PH8170.

Anyone know of a better quality (better filtration capability) oil filter that would fit this thing? The standard Kawasaki oil filter is rated at 28 microns, looking for something considerably better if it's out there. Probably overkill for a mower engine, but would like to do it right.

The oversized Napa 51334 will work assuming you have the room for a larger diameter and longer filter. I'm running the Napa Silver in this size on our G1800 diesel.

*i read capability as capacity... My apologies. The Fram Ultra is about as good as you can get, but yes it'll be an overkill. Lol. The Fram number for the 51334 is XG9688. A filter comparable to the 51056 would be the XG6609 or the slightly longer XG7317

Welcome btw.

I'm sure there are only so many oil filter brands that make an oil filter that will fit your kawi engine. You mentioned that the the oem kawi filter is rated at 28 microns. I would simply make a list of all the other oil filters that will fit your engine ,and then determine what the micron rating is on each oil filter ,and go with the best one. Does that make sense?

Thanks for the quick replies, gentlemen. Definitely gives me something to look into further.

If I had to pick one I would cross it to a Royal Purple I have cut a bunch of them all solid and built like a tank.

How much room do you have for a longer filter?

The Fram PH8170 is 2.22 long, the PH3614 is 3.34, the PH3600 is 4.92...

I run an STP S3600 on my garden tractor, sticks out like a hemorrhoid, but works fine.

It's a lawn mower. Any filter you use will be just fine. That engine will outlive most of the rest of the mower even if you use the cheapest filter available.

Just find one, change it on a reasonable basis, and sleep well at night.

mattwithcats - space really isn't an issue. I could easily go with a longer filter.

Pop_Rivet - that's about the conclusion many have come to with a Kawasaki engine on a z-turn. lol

Fram 3600 or Purolator 20195...

Most small engines with over 17.5 horsepower can use the 3614 or 3600 if there is room.

I love my STP S3600, adds 8 ounces to the oil sump, makes it 64 ounces (2 quarts) exactly to change the oil...

Thats not what he asked. He asked what better quality filter would fit his mower. Your post was no help at all.

I have the same interest, i have kawa 651v also. I am curious about this as well. I asked this here some time back and the two i heard the most mentioned were the fram 3614 and the purolator 10241. I have not tried either yet.

I will try one of them next season, probably the fram ultra version of the 3614.

In that case, a Purolator PL20195 or Fram Ultra XG3600 .

Not sure if the Purolator Synthetic has better filtering than a PureOne...

The longer filter is usually the same cost as the shorter one...

My usuall fill is 50/50 mix of NAPA full synthetic 5w30 and 10w30,
however, Rotella T6 or Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel in 5W-40 could be considered...

NAPA 1348XP or RP 10-2835. Both are about 5/8" longer, same width, thread size and gasket size. Either would do a fine job of filtering.

The mower is in commercial use.

Oh well in that case you must use the Wix Megaguard filter. Isn't assumed that all zero turns are involved in commercial use? Even if not why does anyone think anything other than the factory spec'ed filter would do a better job when changed at the recommended interval? Use what is available. If there were a better option the manufacturer would have told you to use it.

OEM filter is 2.2 inches long, e-core, and costs around $12...

The Fram XG3600 is over twice as long, premium fleece, and costs around $9...

Let me think about this...
