JP Montoya will have a rude awakening when he goes to NASCAR. He actually reminds me of Jeff Gordon. Both are big whiners. Complaining about everything but themselves. Montoya left F1 because he knew he would never be World Champion, even though he had first class equipment. As far as someone being a "real racer", isn't winning the benchmark for a racer's career?

I am further south in Knoxville. I don't go to any races though. Traffic is too bad. I just watch them on TV. I even miss some of the races on tv because the current bunch of drivers have the personality of a white foam cooler.

When I registered at BITOG I could not think of a name so I used the one on the can I was drinking. I know that is silly but I draw a major blank when trying to create a "handle" for myself.

Greg Biffle #16

Personally I think dirt track racing in cars or motorcycles is much more exciting than NASCAR is these days

Wasn't that Star Wars?

While I too am a big sprint car fan, I also like NASCAR a lot. I don't have a big favorite as I prefer a good race and don't really care who wins. But over the years I've rooted for Mark Martin. Lately I've been liking Greg Biffle and Cousin Carl. Always been a Kenseth fan too, so I guess I'm a Roushketeer.

But I really like all the dirt track drivers who've made it big in Cup - Gordon, Newman, Stewart, Kahne, Dave Blaney, even ol' Kenny Schrader. I'm happy when any of those guys win as it gives props to real racin' and real racers.

And of course, because a thing is popular, and lots of money is involved, this thing is naturally exciting and better than other things....

#3...have not really had a favorite driver since....as was said before, most drivers now are either bland or out of the same cookie cutter mold...I guess the cool thing to do now when you even get tapped a little is to flash the other driver the bird or wait for him after the race and start a fist fight...and holy smokes if you wreck...throw your helmet at the other car when he goes by....that is original

And I LIKE NASCAR..

It is sort of funny seeing these 5 foot 5 little people duking it out though

Seriously, though, I find rally car racing a lot more exciting than anything done on a track, maybe with the exception of figure 8 racing. Riding along with the rally drivers on TV is really cool, IMO. That kind of racing requires a whole different skill set.

Actually understanding how to drive and be competitive in NASCAR is a whole lot more than just taking left hand turns.

Not everthing is for everyone though...I do enjoy Rally Racing...I wish more of it was on the tube

Where is it mostly..on the SPEED network?

Used to be an avid nascar fan, going to various tracks. Still enjoy certain aspects of it. But the politics lately have ruined things for me. Its a glorified wrestling match in certain ways. I started losing interest when I heard of instances of cheating by the race inspectors, in allowing certain drivers to make changes, such as removing weight AFTER inspections. Its called "getting the call" in the nascar racing community. I am not naming names as I dont want to be flamed. Also, the way fines are levied is based on the driver involved, and or the make of car. Very unfair. Nascar technology is in a dead end, using technology from 1977. Nothing at all applies to current automotive design. Why they dont even use unleaded gas!! Fans paying 3-4 dollars a gallon to drive to watch prima donnas waste fuel driving in circles and fight and whine will eventually spell the end of this sport, I feel.

The sport lost some great drivers early in the nineties when Alan Kulwicki and Davy Allison were lost. Also a young driver, Rob Moroso, died just as he was getting started around that same time. If those three drivers hadnt been lost, Gordon and Earnhardt would not have had near the number of wins and championships they now have, and would not be as revered as they are.

In passing interest, I like Greg Biffle, Mark Martin, Clint Boyer, Carl Edwards and Jeff Burton.

I will be following Formula One a little more closely now, since they instituted a new idea to allow some sort of energy storage/recovery device for a short term power burst for passing, or to run away from someone else. Actually something that can be applied to the current automotive designs for the street. This is what we should be concetrating on, in the racing world. See this link, lower in the article:

Michael Schumacher is probably the best driver ever. But thats speculative. Aryton Senna was also right up there.

Yes, I would also like to watch Rally racing, with them flying over hills, and powersliding around dirt corners, just inches from spectators. Those guys are amazing. Just not widely telecasted.

I also like John Force, and am enjoying his reality show on TV now.

Real race cars run on dirt. Half of those guys in NASCAR would have brown streaks in their pants if you strapped them in a Sprint Car.
