Used to be an avid nascar fan, going to various tracks. Still enjoy certain aspects of it. But the politics lately have ruined things for me. Its a glorified wrestling match in certain ways. I started losing interest when I heard of instances of cheating by the race inspectors, in allowing certain drivers to make changes, such as removing weight AFTER inspections. Its called "getting the call" in the nascar racing community. I am not naming names as I dont want to be flamed. Also, the way fines are levied is based on the driver involved, and or the make of car. Very unfair. Nascar technology is in a dead end, using technology from 1977. Nothing at all applies to current automotive design. Why they dont even use unleaded gas!! Fans paying 3-4 dollars a gallon to drive to watch prima donnas waste fuel driving in circles and fight and whine will eventually spell the end of this sport, I feel.
The sport lost some great drivers early in the nineties when Alan Kulwicki and Davy Allison were lost. Also a young driver, Rob Moroso, died just as he was getting started around that same time. If those three drivers hadnt been lost, Gordon and Earnhardt would not have had near the number of wins and championships they now have, and would not be as revered as they are.
In passing interest, I like Greg Biffle, Mark Martin, Clint Boyer, Carl Edwards and Jeff Burton.
I will be following Formula One a little more closely now, since they instituted a new idea to allow some sort of energy storage/recovery device for a short term power burst for passing, or to run away from someone else. Actually something that can be applied to the current automotive designs for the street. This is what we should be concetrating on, in the racing world. See this link, lower in the article:

Michael Schumacher is probably the best driver ever. But thats speculative. Aryton Senna was also right up there.
Yes, I would also like to watch Rally racing, with them flying over hills, and powersliding around dirt corners, just inches from spectators. Those guys are amazing. Just not widely telecasted.
I also like John Force, and am enjoying his reality show on TV now.
