Napa synthetic on sale for month of August.
What do you guys think of this oil?
Will 5000 oci's be ok?

No offense, but 5000 miles is nuttin'!

That's going easy on the oil. These days almost any synthetic is better than you really need.

That's what I'm currently running in my Elantra. Just picked up a couple jugs of QSUD or I'd be all over that sale. I plan to keep my current fill in there about 5k or so. Probably will start changing in the fall and spring which should work out to 5-6k on each of my cars. I'd say 5k should be a piece of cake on that oil. I know it is Dexos approved which I believe is a pretty high standard.

Just some clarification.
QSUD is DEXOS certified.
NAPA SYN is NOT DEXOS certified but meets the requirements.

QSUD also meets HTO6 for high temp applications.

Same stuff as Valvoline Synpower, only a lighter add pack.

The manager at my local Napa told me that Napa brand oil is made by Valvoline. For what its worth. I have no proof or personal knowledge.

It does seem that a lot of people are concerned about using Valvoline Synpower for extended OCIs. I was looking at the UOAs, of which there are not as many as say for Mobil, and it seems like a lot of people like to drain it at 5,000-6,000 miles. TBN often looks severely depleted beyond that. At 3.49 a quart, this is a good price for such oil, even in NAPA brand name form.

I would look harder for Synpower UOA's. Not judge its TBN depletion over a couple of OCI's and applications. Members on this for some reason like to draw conclusions with very minimal data on UOA's for trends such as M-1 high iron and Valvoline poor TBN retention.

I mostly make long trips at least once a week. Usually I mix oils, often they are NAPA synthetic, PYB and Mobil 1. I see no problems running it to 7500 miles. I have done this for years and years and have no sludge.

My niece asked me to change her oil for her since she's relocated to my area to start college and is very low on funds. She has a 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser and will be driving around Gainesville, FL in moderate city driving.

So I called my neighborhood NAPA store and asked if the NAPA Synthetic oil sale is still on and they said yes. I had them hold 5 quarts (1 spare quart for her trunk)of 5W30 and a NAPA Gold oil filter. Got out of the store for about $22. She should be good for 6,000 miles I'm thinking.

I'm curious about this oil since I haven't used it before. I'm thinking it should be good for this application.

NAPA syn is very similar to Synpower, with maybe a little weaker add pack.
Valvoline oils have impressed me.
I posted a UOA (of only 4K) from my old BMW and it showed astonishingly low metals as well as impressive residual TBN despite plenty of fuel dilution and loss in viscosity.
I'll post a 5K Synpower UOA from our Forester next month, so we'll see how that looks.
I wouldn't hesitate to use NAPA brand syn for a 5K run, and at 3.49/qt, it is a deal, although I have plenty of other oils in my stash bought at lower prices.
If I needed oil for a change, I'd seriously consider the NAPA syn at that price.
