Napa 5w-30 synthetic?

Made by Ashland, which also makes Valvoline, but from what I can see it is not the same as Valvoline Synpower. For one thing, Synpower has SL and CF ratings, but the NAPA only has the SL. The NAPA likely is Group III, which is not a bad thing, especially if you buy it when it is on sale. Seems they run it for $2.69 a quart a couple times per year. In my neck of the woods, NAPA had that sale last month. As for how good it is, check the UOAs on this site. I think there was one or two on the NAPA synthetic.

Brons2: Wow, not looking so good, even at $2.69 a quart. But I figured out how to get rid of the case I bought earlier this year.

This stuff will fix it up pretty good: LINK. But it might take the whole bottle of Synpower Oil Treatment.

I picked up a bunch of it on sale (both 5 & 10 w 30) and have been running it in some of my vehicles. The trucks/cars have run fine on it and the engines inside still looks clean. No samples done but I feel comfortable running 4k miles on it.

Actually it probably is as good as many oils out there. Nothing special, but adequate. I think the TBN must have been wrong on that VOA. We need some UOAs to establish its performance because, when on sale, the price is right, even with a half bottle of the Synpower stuff added per OCI.

For the money in this price range I prefer the $2.08 per quart Mobil Drive Clean Blend's . Very high TBN in that one and Mobils literature says safe for use in both new and high mile engines .

EDIT :

To add , the way I have seen the MDCB clean a filthy engine I would think it would really help keep a already clean one...clean more so than some other OTC oils

I am finding very little SM oil around here. Perhaps because I live in Texas, they are sending the superior cold weather performing SM/GF-4 to more northern climates.

MDCB's gonna be a hard sell with the Group III MDC becoming more common.

True . One selling point for the educated consumer if "if" it turns out the DCBHM maintains approximately 500ppm more zinc and does some effective cleaning for 50-60 cents more per quart or 2 bucks per oil change .

Who knows though, they might even drop it from the line-up . Time will tell as always
