Napa 15w50 Synthetic

I need to change the oil in my Hydro Gear hydrostatic trans. The original oil is 20w50. Napa has a sale on there 15w50 synthetic for 3.29 per qt. Is this a good oil for my application or should I use a Mobil One 15w50?

I think I would use mineral based 20w-50 if that's what it's already using.

20w50 in a hydrostatic drive? Are you sure? Sounds a bit strange. I'm no hydrostatic drive expert, but the ones I've seen used some type or other hydraulic fluid.

That is the oil as per Hydro-Gear tech.

Yup, Hydro-gear and Tecumseh-Peerless hydros spec a 50 weight oil.

I personally would use 20W-50 Mobil-1 V-twin. It's a tough oil that works well with a wet clutch system and would be perfect for your application.

I have a Tuff Torque and use the Amsoil 30wt Hydrostatic Oil.

In a hydro trans i would use only a full syn to handle the heat
it makes..

I wen from the Manufacturer's (Simplicity brand Oil (10w-30)to Amsoil's 5W-30 Hydrostatic oil...quiter...crisper...smoother...cooler running.
