I keep hearing and reading people say "use name brand oil and you should be fine" so what are the name brand oils other than obvious ones(pennzoil, mobil, amsoil, castrol, valvoline and red line)?

There all great oils, so yes, they are name brand.

for other questions about oil in your car please use the sticky in PCMO

Any API cert. SM or SL oil, regardless of brand, will serve you well.

One of my Jeeps is running Stop&Shop (Grocery store) generic 5W30. It's made by Warren Unilube.

I don't consider Amsoil or Redline to be name brand oil perse because there more of a botique oil. But anything at Walmart but Supertech or Accel.

I missed a space and :

Thanks for pointing it out.

Ashland does not make Castrol/BP.

Keep in mind also, that Motiva is the largest supplier in the world for group II/II+ and Group III base oils. Partially owned by Shell and Texaco. Just about everyone uses their base oils. Add pack is another story.
