n Axle Diff Fluid

I have an '03 Dodge Ram 2500 2wd with an American Axle LS rear axle. Up to this point I have been using the Mopar specific fluid for American Axles. What aftermarket diff fluids are available which meet the AA/Mopar spec. No Amsoil please.

I believe it specs a GL-5 synthetic 75W-90. So you could use Mobil 1 75W-90, Pennzoil Gear Plus Super 75W-90, Shell synthetic 75W-90, or many others including, Schaeffer's, Royal Purple, Red Line, Chevron, and even the one you said not to mention, which happens to be a very good gear oil. All of the above gear oils have the LS additive in them.

Do not use conventional mineral oil based gear oil, i.e., 80W-90.

I might add in 2003 the factory fill gear oil for Chrysler was made by Mobil, but Shell got the contract for factory fill in 2007.

I find it funny how the ford 10.5" calls for 75/140syn, but most other axles, even bigger axles, require 75/90syn.


Delvac 75w90syn meets a lot of standards and is a "thick" 75/90. I called the Tech line and they said you can add Friction Modifier if you need it, no problem. Which what I'm debating running in my Visteon 10.50" 3.73 LS.

I believe, as Johnny said, that it calls for a 75W-90 in the 2500's. A 1500 would call for 75W-140. Royal Purple MaxGear works GREAT.

Amsoil Severe Gear 75w-110 would be a good choice, as your truck may call for 75w-90 back when it was able to be a much thicker fluid.
