With the recent drop in temps, I decided to switch out the oil in my new project Cherokee to a 10w30. I went with Mystik JT-8 Super Heavy Duty 10w30. I came in a 2 gallon jug for $15.00, so the price was right for this old beater rig.

I had two quarts of Rotella 15w40 left over from my previous oil change in the vehilce, so I used those two quarts up along with 4 from the 2 gallong jug of Mystic. Anyone see a problem with this mixture.

In the future I plan on running Mystik JT-8 exclusively in this vehilce since the price is very good and its a HDEO carrying all the various Diesel ratings and API SL rating for gasoline vehicles.

I'll probably stick to using 2 qts of 15w40 and 4 of 10w30 in this vehilce, although next time it will be all Mystic brand oil.

So any comments or suggestions? The 15w40 just seemed too heavy for this engine, despite it being a 4.0L I6 that according to various sources just love 40wt oil.

Oh, and I only had 200mi on the 15w40 Rotella that was in there, but I'm glad I changed it. It was very dirty. Of course this was the first "proper" oil change this vehicle has seen in over a year so I expected the oil to be quite dirty and was just using the Rotella for a short term and cheap, clean and flush oil.

Edit: I was originally considering going with Rotella T-syn 5w40, but I can no longer find it available anywhere around here.

I have been wanting to go with the mystik, but all i can find is ch-4/sh variety yet. Must not sell much of it. I too have old beater i would like to test it on.

next to Schaeffers ,Mystik is a excellent engine oil,,I have heard of truckers running 15w40 Mystik over a Million miles with no engine tear-down,,and when they did ,it was impressive,,,,,,,,,BL
