So we bought a new car, 2011 Hyundai Elantra. I was pondering over what wax to use. My wife always gets upset seeing the remains of NuFinish on our vehicles, so when I was at WalMart yesterday, I picked up some Turtle wax “ICE” and figured I would use that. I get home and start looking at the reviews for it and after reading all of the negative reviews, I thought back to NuFinish and how I have always been happy with it and proud of the shine, and protection I have always gotten from it. So I said to myself, why am I trying to leave a product that I’ve been so happy with? I’ll be returning the “ICE”.
I know many of you can’t stand NuFinish, but there are also some of us who swear by it and I’m one of them. Yes, I would prefer to use Meguiers, but I’m married with kids. I don’t have the time like I once did to send hrs detailing my vehicles. Now, I can put Nufinish on and not have to reapply it for a bunch of months and be very happy in-between. My oldest vehicle is a 01 Silverado. Has always been outdoors (Been in Death Valley in the summer, and the cold snow in winter too). When it is washed and clean, people have remarked about how new the paint looks. I like to thank NuFinsh for that.

In Miami jungle blazing sun and monsoon rain Nufinish holds up well for over 4 months...I never could do that with anything from Turtle Wax.

Black Magic Liquid works just as good as Nufinish [but harder to get off] but no one down here carries it anymore.

I can relate to that!

The last time I bought Black Magic was at an AutoZone closeout sale...$0.97/bottle about a year ago. I assume that it was not a popular item in the Pacific northwest locale.

I still rememeber the first commercial for NuFinish and the red 86 Aries they ran through 50 car washes, and the water still beaded!

Have you tried Collinite 845? You can't see any residue and it is very durable.

Rule #1 when it comes to a professional detail job: Turtle Wax products don't cut it. I realize there are folks here that like Turtle wax and that's fine. I just want better for my vehicles and you can do much better. I also will not touch NuFinish. You can use a good quality wax and use a spray detailer after washing that keeps the wax shine and protection as well as keeping your car looking great. I use Groit's garage products, some meguires and a few others. Bottom line, when I wax with these products I get great protection and CLARITY - the paint is deep and glossy. I only have to wax 1 or 2x a year because the quick detailers enhance and extend the life of your wax job. It only adds 5 minutes..maybe 10 tops to your car wash.

Here is what I do and it is really not that big of a deal time wise and keeps the rides looking good!

Clay x 1-2 times a year
Use a good carnauba or sythetic wax X 2-3 times a year
Maintain with a Spray Wax after car washing.
Use a Spray Detailer inbetween washes.

I did like The Wax Shop products from Turtle Wax. But I think Turtle Wax killed that line.

ICE worked well on unpainted plastic and lenses....that's about it.

I got some Eagle One Nanowax at Big Lots for like 3.99. Best $3.99 wax I've ever purchased.

If your even shorter on time, some of todays high quality spray waxes can be used as stand alones ( Meg's Ultimate Quick Wax, Mothers FX Syn Wax, Lucas Slick Mist, Eagle One, etc, etc) and replace the liquid or paste wax. Obviously there are some trade offs in shine and durability for the speed of a spray wax, but in many cases it is "good enuff"!
Just make sure to continue to top it off after washing to keep up the protection and shine.

Turtle Wax ICE is a POLISH, not a wax, so no it's not as durable as a carnuaba wax, still have a bottle of the stuff and use it to keep all the black trim black
