As an airline management student, I have taken aviation security, and my professor was the either second or head of security at Denver international airport for 10 years If I remember. Unfortunately many everyday chemicals can set off sensors as they too contain petroleum products. I don't think racial or religious profiling in America will ever become accepted nor do I think it should. But travel to Israel where they DO profile you. They start asking questions before you even get to the ticket counter. If you're 18-22 year old Palastinian Male good luck, as you could be there for a while. Unfortunately or fortunately after taking some security classes and learning the terrorists are getting smarter and more creative, which in turn effects us with more security, and longer airport waits. If you want to really bypass the hassle, get a private pilots license which I'm in the process of, and go that route. It's not easy but at least you know who, and what is on your airplane. As a last bit of trivia, many people don't know that only 1 to maybe 2 percent of all cargo is screened on airlines (how to you think they ship your last minute packages overnight?).
