My Quest for Good Cheap Oil

People don't do research, they enter the Napa store and that's how Napa gets them with their oil and oil filter. It's like my local Jeep Stealership wants $17 for a Mopar oil filter and $55 for air filter.
I didn't get interested in NAPA oil because it's cheap. It's not cheap, but is affordable when on sale, and it's on sale often. I think there's a monthly sale?

I got interested in NAPA oil because it's good and when on sale is affordable. I think NAPA FS is Valvoline EP FS in a NAPA bottle.

I think NAPA Full Syn is Valvoline EP Full Syn in a NAPA bottle. So I think it's very good oil. NAPA oil is reasonably affordable when on a monthly sale, especially if/when the sale includes NAPA oil and NAPA Gold filter package deal.

However, NAPA Gold regular price is 5 qt jug $30. I'd never buy it at regular price though. I'd wait for a sale. It's currently on sale for $25.

However, you make a valid point. Quaker State Ultimate Protection Full Syn regular price is 5 qt jug $24. It's sometimes on sale for $20.

That's a good enough reason right there to choose QSUPFS over NAPA, IMO. Also, QSUPFS is a very good oil too, IMO.
How does @Glenda W. feel about the Valvoline EP being a very good oil?

I didn't read all the pages (yet). I did see the one post that asked what vehicle/motor/OCI. Good, inexpensive, value oil may be excellent in some motors but not so much in others even with a relatively low OCI.

One thread recent someone mentioned the M1 0W-40 which is always a recommended oil, spotless insides but still started oil burning and wondered if the motor slowly started clogging oil control rings. Not as fast as other oils but a consideration. I don't think any tear down was performed.

Now would you notice any issues in your vehicle over time, who knows?

Thanks Glenda. Your post makes me want to learn more about Mobil 1. There are so many different types of Mobil 1, and the prices are very reasonable at Walmart. The Mobil 1 euro oils are very interesting choices (like Mobil 1 ESP), and the full saps FS equivalent.

Would you know which Mobil 1 oils have PAO or Ester in them?
I know a few but not all.

Mobil 1 EP and Truck & SUV=GTL/PAO/AN

M1 ESP line=GTL/PAO/Ester(except 5W-30).

Valvoline EP was run the most in my oil burner. A very quiet oil in Subarus. But evident in Valvoline’s 500k mile tear down leaves some deposits behind. I highly recommend the R&P.

I have a Walmart account. They send me these e-mails of " flash deals" / " Black Friday deals / " This deal or that deal " I scroll to the automotive section of these deals and find FANTASTIC sales on 10k or 20K name brand 5-quart jugs of synthetic oil for like $ 22 bucks, or $ 20 bucks. Free delivery over $35 dollars. So, I'll buy 2 jugs to get the free shipping. Not blended oils either. Full synthetic. Usually same day shipping from the store.

Just trying to tempt OP, look at that beautiful cupcake made by Shell Bakery

FWIW, years ago I did try Mobil One 0w40 in my 97 Buick Park Ave. It did not like M1 0w40. It had slight blue exhaust smoke at startup and sounded noisy at startup. It never has issues using Maxlife Syn or Blend 5w30.

Well my Buick had one issue with all oils. It had a leaky valve cover gasket, but it had that issue with all oils. Maxlife Blend leaked the least. I recently had my valve covers gaskets replaced. No more oil leak. It doesn't burn a drop of oil.

The oil had nothing to do with pre-existing mechanical issues.
