Well now I am downloading this InfraRecorder that I learned about on the Ubuntu site. Thing is...my wife burns CD's all the time. Will this InfraRecorder interfere with her cd burning?
If you are using Fire-Fox you can click Tools, Download to show you a list of what you downloaded recently... Then you can find out where it put the stuff
I cain't find the stuff I downloaded. I feel my blood pressure is getting a bit high right now. I might have to go take a walk! How come this computer stuff is so easy for everybody but me!
I grew up with computers, took Computer Engineering in school and have a very technical/logical mindset from my dad who is a mechanic. I was sorta put in this are with a gift if you will...
No worries bud, take a step back and I'm sure you will find it...
iirc that laptop is one of the models affected by the buggy nvidia chipsets.there is a "recall" of sorts on these.
but the live linux test is still quite valid.
i always have a knoppix or ubuntu cd/dvd close by for that.
Well now tha I've been up all night procuring the cd. How to run it? Just throw it in and let it do it's thang? Aye I think I'm fallin' out here...GOod Nite zzzzzzzzz
Put the cd in and shut down your computer to the OFF state. Then turn it back on and push the F-12 key repeatedly until it gives you the "Boot" menu. Choose the CD-ROM or DVD-ROM from the list and it will boot the CD you burnt.
Then once it comes up try using a USB device within Linux. If it works then it's a windows problem, if it doesn't then their is a hardware problem...
Okay I somehow managed to boot the cd. It asked me a few questions. I chose option one which was to sample Ubuntu without actually installing it. I could open the FireFox brower but could not go anywhere. Do I need to install Ubunutu? Is it difficult to remove? And I will add I could not print, but I think Ubuntu in demo mode is the reason. Any ideas?
I had a problem with windows xp not installing drivers for USB flash drives. I had to "unhide" inf folder in C:\windows. I selected that folder to install drivers for the USB drive to work from the C:\windows\inf folder.
what did the device manager say what was wrong with the usb ports?
