My old LP's

I decided to catalog my LPs. This thread has been a bit of an inspiration for that. Many of my records haven't seen daylight in over 40 years. Those peach crates are much heavier than they used to be!

I used to love BÖC. I saw them 3 or 4 times 1976-79. By then Punk had come (and gone), and New Wave was exploding. That's when I stopped going to Heavy Metal concerts and buying records in that genre.

I have all those. Hahahahaha

But sometime between 1980 and 2025 all the LPs on the left in your picture vanished - since replaced. And I still have those on the right.

If you want to sell any - especially Secret Treaties - let me know. ;):):D

Cool thread! Like many here, I ditched my LPs when CDs came out and it’s a huge regret. (And im also kicking myself for tossing CD cases/artwork…but at least I still have my CDs)

So I’m slowly rebuilding my collection…lots of vinyl gets posted on SlickDeals, so I setup alerts for when they get posted. $20-ish bucks is generally my sweet spot.

After I finish digitizing, I'll send you any you'd like. I used Discwasher 50 years ago, but this thread has taught me there are much more effective methods of cleaning to quiet clicks and pops. After years of CD listening, my tolerance for noise is pretty low. So I'm going to get one of the immersion systems. I haven't decided which, but it needs to have a balance between cost and effectiveness. I almost popped for one, but we're heading to the PNW for up to 3-4 weeks on short notice. I'm glad I didn't, so I don't have to deal with having a neighbor grab it off the front porch.

Here's my setup for converting vinyl to mp3s. I use a pre-amp and this Roxio device plugged into a laptop. Audacity software makes it work pretty well, but the learning curve was steep for me.

When I resume the project, I'll put BÖC at the top of the list. That Secret Treaties album cover always gave me the creeps. Although an incredible aircraft, to me an ME-262 is the personification of Nazi evil. When I saw one at Smithsonian Air and Space years ago, it made my skin crawl.

(y)Like them all and have owned them all in one form or another from the 8 track days to the CDs I now own.

I have boxes of all my LP's in the attic of a conditioned garage. All my records kept. I graduated in 1988, the greatest time leading up to and then what blew up shortly after. The 60:s originals, 70's metal , and then metal came on best strength of sounding best Metallica, Guns n Roses,Motley Crue,Ratt, all sounded great out those monsters of speakers we had.

SWEET! I still play my Marantz SR4000. LoL. I am a dinosaur stuck in the past just like the Joe Walsh song Analog Man.
Lyrics:
Welcome to cyberspace, I'm lost in the fog
Everything's digital, I'm still analog
When something goes wrong, I don't have a clue
Some ten year old smart-ass has to show me what to do

Sign on with high speed, you don't have to wait
Sit there for days and vegetate
I access my email, read all my spam
I'm an analog man
The whole world's living in a digital dream
It's not really there
It's all on the screen
Makes me forget who I am
I'm an analog man
Yeah, I'm an analog man in a digital world
I'm gonna get me an analog girl
Who loves me for what I am
I'm an analog man
What's wrong with vinyl?
I think it sounds great
LPs, 45s, 78s, but that's just the way I am
I'm an analog man
Turn on the tube, watch until dawn
100 channels, nothing is on
Endless commercials
Endless commercials
Endless commercials
The whole world's glued to the cable TV
It looks so real on the big LCD
Murder and violence are rated PG
Too bad for the children, they are what they see
The whole world's living in a digital dream
It's not really there
It's all on the screen
Makes me forget who I am
I'm an analog man
Yeah, I'm an analog man in a digital world
I'm gonna get me an analog girl
Who loves me for what I am
I'm an analog man
Yeah, I'm an analog man in a digital world

Recent acquisition from the thrift store. Original 1964 pressing but not early.

Sweet find. Years back the wife got me to start joining her on some short trips to the Goodwill and Salvation Army stores in our area.
She likes to find books , CDs & albums plus all sorts of kitchen items and nick knacks women like to place around the house. Older things one can not find anymore. Kind of reminds me of estate sales after all the high end stuff has been cleaned out. Still , one can find things if you look close. Sometimes there would be nothing we wanted but not too often. Just a silly little hobby we did for a while.

What sure surprised me was exactly how many of those stores we found in about a 20 mile radius from the house. The next thing was the incredible amount of things (in good shape) that folks donate. When we first started I was picking up all sorts of used / cheap priced products. Everything from electronics to TVs (before flat screen changed tv forever). Found several mini and table top stereos , good vintage speakers, DVD , CD players , albums, books and even tools etc.... I would keep the stuff I really liked and wanted and it was always very easy for me to find friends and folks who wanted what I did not. They were always happy to get those things for free. Things that I could not use but I knew to take anyway for someone I knew that would want them. The prices are so cheap it was hard to pass some of the things up. These days , I do not run across much of that vintage electronic stuff anymore but we still stop now and then to look for books and music etc.... Those are good places to check out for anyone into vintage items for cheap.

Always pop into vintage shops when traveling. Have picked up a few cool items over the years & passed on some I still kick myself for.

Last trip up the Oregon coast I found a nice pair of early 60’s JBL speakers 15” but forget the model. We didn’t take the truck & there was zero chance the fusion was able to take them. Random little vintage shop about 30mi north of Florence.

Will be taking the truck this summer on our trip up to Astoria lol.

I found this at a local record store. It was on my list to replace albums missing over the decades. This is much nicer than the one that went missing.

A 1968 German pressing on Decca. Heavy vinyl. No visible scratches, it looks clean. It'll get played after a trip through the sonic bath.

I have a pair of similar JBL-2500 speakers (heavy wooden cases). I paired those JBL-2500s with a set of BOSE-141 bookshelf speakers (they look identical to but are smaller than my BOSE-301s). Those BOSE-301 can shake things up. . I set those speakers up to be pushed by my old MarantzSR4000 Stereo Receiver. This set up (4 speakers) and a Sony auto CD player sounds absolutely stunning. The albums sound nearly as good as the new CDs to me.

These were nearly identical to this D130 listing on eBay:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/156273206973

Darker in color but same speakers.

I mostly use Speaker Art (from the late Bob Gross). Have a pair of his Super Clefs upstairs paired with a vintage Mitsubishi dual mono setup & a pair of his mini Clefs transmission line downstairs paired with Wyred 4 Sound monoblocks & Placette passive preamp

Do have a simple setup in the lounge. I restored a pair of Marantz Imperial 6G & paired with a vintage receiver.

I don’t currently have a room large enough for any vintage 15 or 18” speakers. Just happened across those JBL’s for a steal but had no way to transport them.

The 2500s you’re referencing are from the 80’s correct? There’s some very underrated equipment from that era. People are starting to pick up on brands like ADS, Boston, Infinity & others. Deals can still be found fairly easily on great performing gear though. The nice looking 60’s & 70’s gear is getting to be ridiculous in price though.
