My 1988 or 89 MTD is starting to turn into swiss cheese. My dad bought it new, used it as back up mower until I bought my house 12 years ago then I took it. Deck on the other side (I forgot to take a pic of the rot) is just falling apart.

Anyways, I wanted my own from new so I grabbed this at Home Depot. I am currently waiting on my order of HPL break in oil to run it in on before putting into use. Also it has a foam air filter so Ill likely give that some proper Maxima or BelRay filter oil. Its a 140cc B-S ohv.

Wow I had a murray for years. It served me well when I had my own mowing business. I didn't know murray was still around.

I think Briggs & Stratton produces the Murray mowers these days. As I recall they bought them and a few other brands.

Sharp machine - I recall having Craftsman in silver …
B&S always served me well …

Looks like it's ready to chomp on some grass. Nice looking mower. The problem is that we don't get that long life, like your old mower, today is due to parts support & cost of labor to fix it (no shop really messes w/them). Do you know what the warranty is on this Murray?

All you need now is a 15 year old who's cash strapped to push it around the yard :ROFLMAO:
Why pay a 15yo when you can just conscript your 10 or 12yo into doing it for free like when we were kids?? :ROFLMAO:

I started out pushing our 1.4 acre yard growing up which was a blast . At least it was a self propelled unit (but very heavy). I did graduate to a bicycle handle barred Snapper one blade rider eventually, but still needed the push mower for the ditches.

The mower didn't come with oil that you could use as "break-in" oil before using the HPL oil?

That's the same engine I had on my previous mower. I bumped the RPM up to 3600 for extra cutting power, it worked great.

FWIW I use either the Briggs brand 30W oil or NAPA brand 10W-30 full syn. in those motors. Also, my valve adjustment was a little off (Exhaust tight, intake loose) when I did my first adjustment after 1 year. I give mine a new air filter every year, change the oil and sharpen the blade before winter sets in. Briggs says no oil changes but we all know better. Edit: that looks like an MTD deck and you can get replacements for a reasonable price around $100 USD.
