purchased a Malibu LS

kind of a funny smell, not the enjoyable "new car" fragrance you'd expect

anyone else experience this?

Just for kicks go sit in another stock vehicle like yours that is in the lot, the newest arrival you can find....how does it smell?

I remember watching a story on the news about how the new car smell is actually a carcinogen - it is from the plastics outgasing and that auto companies were working to reduce this "hazard".

I have no idea how true any of it was.

That's correct dishdude....

That new car smell is the "outgasing" of plastic parts in the interior especially the dash because it is in the sun for extended periods of time the heat increases this process.

Yes, the fumes are a carcinogen.

I am only half joking when I ask if maybe you got a flood car that was refurbished, lots of cars got wet this spring in some parts of the country.

Oh, it's out-gassing, alright. We're just lucky that THAT type of out-gassing isn't a carcinogen.
