I sorta disparagingly refer to it as my nerd car. It's a 2006 Smart ForTwo Passion CDI. It had about 125300 kilometers when I got it, it's about 131000 kilometers now. Bought this about 2.5 weeks ago. Paid $5600 all in for it, plus $550 at Costco for a set of new Blizzaks. With my driving style I get around 210-250 miles per 4.5 gallon fillup, so between 48 mpg at the lowest to 58 mpg highest average per tank. I'm currently running Syntec 0w30 plus a Carquest oil filter, and 2 to 3.5 ounces of Powerservice diesel kleen per tank.

Looks good for the mileage. I was thinking much less miles on it. Was the fuel cover door optional?

Three lug wheels too, hehe.

W/o the diesel it's not a very smart car. But at 50-ish mpg, pretty decent. I didn't know the diesels were available up north.

Nice find.

Looks like a very economical ride. I got my Saturn because it was the best all around value I could find, sounds like you did the same thing.

4.5 gallon fillups? What is the tank capacity?

Without the diesel they get pretty crummy mileage

I think the sticker on new gas versions in the US are around $19k with a few options. Models with more features like navi, nicer wheels, fog lights run around $23k.

Good LORD! For $23k you could get a really nice Focus/Mazda3/Cruze.......

Wow, I never thought they would be that cheap. But I guess its 7 years old and has a limited market.
What's the insurance like on it? $5-6k for a 60mpg commuter starts to pay for itself.
I did see one everyday on my commute last year but it seems to be gone.

I remember first seeing them in Canada years ago on the highway. What a sight that was, looked like a flying dot. They were really zipping along, I was amazed.

No, the diesel Smart ForTwo was available in Canada, but not in the US.

For $5600, I'd drive a diesel one of those. The gas ones? No thanks.

How's it drive? It looks like a go-kart, and go-karts are a hoot.

Agreed dork car

Nice find though with tdi.

I personally (vanity) would not want to be seen driving it. I am plain jane sedan, wagon or suv person.

Why high MPG cars have to look stupid. It is almost on purpose for the nerd appeal:

SmartCar
Prius
Honda Insight
Nissan Leaf
Mitsubishi electric car
Civic Hybrid with dorky alloys

Don't get it.

My neighbour has one of them, a gasser mind you. He's from Louisiana and weighs about 400 lbs, and his wife is a large lady, too. Don't worry, he grasps the notion that he looks a bit silly driving the thing! It's not his only vehicle though, by far. He seems to be a bit of a collector.

I hope they have good safety ratings. Doesn't look like it could withstand much of an impact. And how are they supposed to handle in the snow?
