Not sure why, but my my mom picked up a few P1s for me at Meijer's tonight ( 2 for 9)...she even grabbed the right number filters without looking! (nice !) So I gotta use them...

Have to say, the cartridge filters P1s look pretty solid, much better than the puro classics!

With some synthetic oil, how long would you use a P1 filter for? I'm thinking 6k should be good....

Love my mom!

Cartridge filter? Two 7.5K OCI's for a total of 15K miles.

I've used PureONE and Bosch Professional (Identical to a P1) with Synthetic oil on a Silverado using the OLM and it usually ran 7k or more with zero issues.

I'd give her a hug, thank her, and return them.

Before I get flamed here's my reasoning. I've read enough about them on this site and others not to want to use them anymore. There are plenty of better alternatives available, so why should I bother? When I'm 100% certain their problems are history, then maybe I'll consider them again.

These for your Cobalt? If so I'd only be worried about the crush/twist some filters show on these. Might be worth pulling it after the first OCI and reinstalling if it's not crushed.

We havent really seen a trend in Puro cartridge filters here so I wouldn't hesitate using them.

However in the recent thread, a guy ran a Classic to 10k (recommended interval) and it developed a small hole. Purolator said he ran it too long.. Some would argue he should have went to a P1 or synthetic, but their warranty clearly says it can be used for 3 months OR the recommended OCI. (3750, 7500, 10,000 etc.)

They are so black and white with their products so its hard to say what it should be ran at.

Really? 15k miles on a high-efficency filter not designed or marketed for extended OCIs?

In a recent thread, this guy ran a filter way to long and then complained when Purolator told him it was his fault. OP don't worry about it. You have a good mother who was nice enough to purchase you those filters. Use them with confidence. They will be just fine.

It is an OEM replacement. If a Classic isnt the right filter for an application and recommended interval, shame on Purolator for making and selling a product unfit for the task.

*Recommended normal intervals:

My dads audi: 10k
My moms elantra: 7.5k
My GFs volvo: 7.5k
My dads raptor: Follow OLM (could be anything from 5k-10k.. this is pulled off with a MC filter quite often.)
My moms rubicon: Follow OLM (roughly 5k for her driving)
My Jeep: 6k

Purolator makes a Classic for each of these applications.

But one question to that though- did you have a tough time getting it out?

I own 3 ecotec engines (all use the same filter), and have done that to a Delco, Wix, and a Fram TG over the years. (usually in my Cobalt, for some odd reason) I know that when you pull them out-they get crushed! Only filter I've pulled that didn't get some sort of damage was the fram ultra.

Granted, maybe someone did a poor job gluing the top on there.....

Yeah, I'd test these on the Cobalt first (the advantage of it being the beater

) Downside is that I tend to twist them a bit anyways...might only be good once!

Have to say that these P1s look much better than the last time I saw them...I remember them looking kinda of sad for the price! I put it next to a wix filter...pleats look exactly the same.

Would like to think these would make it through a spring OCI.....

No, I had no problems removing both the filter from the housing and the one endcap. It may very well be a poor glue job.

Part of me wonders if ambient temperature swings have anything to do with how it looked. I will likely use the Bosch again for it to be in use foe the summer months only and see how it looks after 5 or 6k.

In fairness, the filter probably did its job despite how ugly it looks.

I wouldn't trust a filter that bends, even more when it is cold 8 months of the year.

What a bunch of rude members. The man's mother bought him some filters. Give her some credit. Heck, she was even nice enough to buy him good Pureone filters. That means she has more sense then a good amount of the members here! Tell your mom thanks and move on down the road. Dont listen to this propaganda, and please, post pictures of your filters after you use them to prove that mom made a good choice!
