I've got a hill directly north of my house thats pretty much useless. Has my driveway cut into it and then a corner of my property line not too far away from the road.

South of my house is a Gully that fills with water during a flash flood.

So I've been wondering what I should do on that useless piece of triangle shaped hill that I own.

I decided on a mineshaft with an Ore Cart sticking out of it!

So I started collecting pieces. I got the small rails that were twisted up.

I straightened them.

Then a reproduction Ore cart(real ones are big $$$), Then I found the correct 3 inch long spikes to hold the rails to the ties.

A friend gave me a bunch of old wood from a fence. I did buy some new wood and as you can see I still need to stain the front of the mine.

I'm not done yet. I have some Copper and iron stained Quarts rock that I nabbed from an abandoned mine out in the desert that I'm going to put in the cart as well as some other rusty items to throw next to it.

I didn't really have a plan other than an idea in my head. No plans written on paper or anything like that. Just a tape measure and a bubble level.

Looks nice already! And, perfect conversation piece!

If I may, maybe get some black landscape fabric or something large that can be painted black to lay in the "mine shaft?

Like a big rubber mat? HMMMMMMMMmmmm. I left the top open to let the wind through. The thing faces the wind and although it's burried in the hill I wanted to give it a better chance of not being blown to Vegas.
