Why are you running so many splitters? I'd take a very close look at things and figure out if you can simplify.


We have three HD Dig. Cable set top boxes, one cable modem, then two TVs using analog basic cable. I think I'll give it some time and see how it goes. It is still working great. Maybe I'm over obsessing.

I might keep harping on this but WOW my internet connection hasn't been this good since god knows when. I'm loving this. I click on BITOG and it loads instantly.

Before, sometimes it'd load, sometimes slow, sometimes I'd have to wait 10-15 seconds!

Here's how I fixed mine:

After initial activation of 15/1mb DSL I was getting speeds maxing out at a whopping 5mb/256kb.

Even at those speeds my snr was sitting at around 6. Which isn't that odd if I was getting my advertised speeds considering my attenuation is almost non-existant (I'm only a block from the CO). But at the speed I was getting it was HORRIBLE.

1. I cut the half-ringer out of the NID.

2. I cut every last line off the demarc except for the wire coming from the NID

3. I re-ran new CAT3 (I have a ton of it laying around) from the demarc to the DSL RJ11, and the phone RJ11. I re-ran nothing else.

The previous owner of my house ran phone lines EVERYWHERE. When I started getting into the nitty gritty of it, I found 12 freaking phone lines. One of them was run right off the NID.

He had a line running to another demarc in another section of the house.

He had lines split and spliced together with electrical tape. One line was run to the back bedroom, and then run back to the living room. At least I think so, I lose sight of it. Rather than try and fix the nightmare, I just cut it all out - I don't need phone lines anymore anyway.

Now I'm sitting at 15mb/1mb like I should be with a snr of 9 - I could actually go a good bit faster than this.

In Romania they have no regulations and high competition. A few backbone providers and a huge patchwork of competitive LAN providers. Tons of free Wi-Fi hotspots everywhere. On top of that the infrastructure was updated by WTO/Soros/etc grant moneys there, in Bulgaria, Ukraine, Lithuania, Latvia and a few others. Those Gypsy LANs are amazing, the locals are not burdened by the limits that are imposed on US folks. On top of that they have a higher density of qualified IT specs there.
