My friend bought a new Cybertruck

Yeah, same here kind of.
I’m pretty open minded on the looks, even in my past posts I kind of liked it.
Yet just now looking at the photos I’m questioning why I did/do.

If I’m going to spend on that I’m much more in love with those tasteful HUGE, Loaded with factory options big tires/running boards and a nice big V8 pickups (possibly even a diesel) from GM or Ford
I’m in love with those things, and the cabs set up like living rooms. Maybe it takes me back as a kid with Tonka trucks? But the real thing.

Lucky because I won’t ever spend the money on any of them because a hot girl in the passenger seat will cost even more 🙃
That and it doesn't really have a 6'1" bed capacity if the load is over 4 inches tall. The cab slopes backwards (why.... Ah yeah because Elon) limiting what is really able to be carried.

Well, the sloped rear is supposed to give it some surprisingly good aerodynamics and range, but the AT tires kind of cancel it out.

The tonneau does not have to be closed to drive.

It's a "truck" for those who need to be special and do things like buy this, vote for foolish reasons, get meaningless tattoos, dress certain ways and numerous other things sensible people will never do.

I guess the normal options are for those that feel the need to judge others.

It's not for me either, but I'm not too concerned about the type of person that buys one. We all buy what we like for different reasons. I'm sure most here wouldn't be caught dead in a small hatchback either because it doesn't fit their wants or needs. I have my thoughts on people buying more vehicle than they actually need, but at the end of the day they have to pay for it, not me. If anything be happy someone found joy in an incredibly stupid looking vehicle. 😂

The hate goes on...
Wouldn't use the word "hate".
I suspect that a number of us here could plunk down the required funds.
I may consider this thing *****, but there are others who find it uniquely attractive.
We all have different tastes and different approaches to spending our hard earned.
To us, travel is more important than a showy road vehicle while to others a showy road machine is more important.
It's a matter of personal priorities and desires.

If I had to assume based on some of the comments here, it was about judging the owners themselves, not whether or not we'd buy one. It's not for me either, but I'm not going to waste my energy assuming who they are as a buyer.

So are they using it as a regular vehicle? I imagine it does OK at that? Or is there anything particularly impractical?
I guess most people who don't tow far or at all with a 1/2 ton would be fine with these if they can handle the charging aspect.
Yes, he commutes with it. Not sure what else he does with it, I don't think he puts much in the "truck" bed

I am not a fan of it. Personally I think it's ugly and the interior is awful (it feels like I'm sitting in a hospital waiting room), but I don't "hate" it. I am glad he is happy, that's all that matters to me. He paid 108k out the door for it which is far too much for my budget. I'll stick with my old Silverado.

Nice! I can't say if the owner of it is happy or not, it was in tow, but he might have been transporting it. I get dragged out of retirement from a good friend from time to time, always to work for some very wealthy people, in some impressive houses, this one was on the Peconic Bay. I always enjoyed working in the Hamptons when my business was in full swing, but only after the summer. Too much traffic during the summer when schools are closed.
Your posts implies some good points.

This TSLA was designed and built in the USA. Lots of the technology like the steering and the 48v configuration apparently were USA design and manufacture.

I am not sure when any of the "Big 3" designed and built so much in the USA into their vehicles. I guess the Chevy/ GM full size truck tailgate might have been the last major things from any of the Big 3 for their trucks. I suspect most of the Big 3 vehicle technology comes from outside of the USA.

Hate on this TSLA truck- but it certainly is a huge win for USA engineers.

I don't understand many of you guys on here. I saw one of these trucks on the road and they are not for me, even if I could afford one. But I'm not pissing on anybody that can and do buy one. Good for them. They can do whatever they want with their money. I dont care why they buy it, it doesn't affect me at all. Do you all think differently about the owner of a Ferrary or a Lamborghini? Good for them also. How about the dually pickup trucks grocery getters that never tow anything? Do you scrutinize their owners the same as you do owners of electric vehicles? It is all the same, their money, they can waste them any way they can and it won't affect me one bit.

I am truly thankful that in this great country of ours we still have choices and means to do what we want. Let's enjoy the freedom and the choices we have while we still have them, without demonizing other people for theirs.
I see lots of folks who don’t like the vehicle - little said about people
We have more bashing of people in the bro dozer threads …

Literally reading this post in my small hatchback in the work parking lot. Hope nobody sees me 🤣
