Castrol GTX. OMG!!I've been back and forth and back and forth, on the fence as to what brand to go with, and FINALLY I can honestly say without a doubt that I've made my final choice. If I change my mind again, I give permission to the powers that be to boot me from this web site.

What I've learned..FINALLY..is that for me, any oil will do fine, but I prefer a brand name that is readily available at any given time (just incase) I need to pay someone else to do do, although I always change my own. Also, Castrol really seems to be ahead of the game...I was intrigued with Mobil 5000 for a while because Mobil products in general seem to be at the top of their game, but sometimes it's impossible to find Mobil 5000. Recently I've heard that Castrol is now using sodium in their products which leads me to the conclusion that they are on to something just like Mobil is. I don't know what it is, but both companies additive packages seem to be diverse, and I like that, personally.

So I'm done. My mind is made up. And I'm sure that ANY brand would give me the same results given my choice of OCI, but I feel there is merit to sticking with one brand, and I'm just glad that I'm finally there.

Sodium is just a detergent like calcum. The only GTX that has sodium as part of the add pack is 5W-20. At least that I know of. Just go with whatever is cheaper. Since your in the midwest mobil-5000 or havoline.

Is that your final answer?

Now you can move on to The Weakest Link (cue that funky instrumental clip that's used in the show).

Stay tuned for scenes from tomorrow's exciting episode where mossad performs a death-defying double-reverse backflip with no safety net! (But first a word from our sponsor, ExxonMobil...)

Hey Now!! LOL

My choice of oil is NEVER based on price.. It is based on availability (Mobil 5000 runs out of stock continually), and Castrol is ALWAYS stocked up and is at the top of their game with marketing and add pack. Yes, I'm one of the few who apreciates a company that advertises heavily, because if they do, then they must have a good product they can back up if they are going to put their neck on the line to bawk about it the way they do.

There are no bad GF-3/4 SL/SM oils.

Your decision should be based on your driving habits, length of service and what your vehicle likes best - not what you like best. A few folks here don't make alot of money & need to buy the cheapest GF-3/4 SL/SM oil. But most here don't have that problem - since it costs the equivalent of an oil change for them every month to surf the internet & read these posts.

Much the same thinking. I figure, pick a good, widely available product, and stick with it as long as it seems to be working for you. I have grit my teeth over the pricing of my Pennzoil, but stick with it. Relieved Wally's has ''Rolled back the price'' to $8.72 from $10 for the 5 QT jug.

Yeah, I know the SM isn't the same as the old SL I used for years, but Pennzoil won't have much room to wiggle out of it if I have trouble. My 02 Cavalier hasn't seen a drop of anything else since I dumped the factory fill.

But there's Syntec blend and Syntec, and both of those are also always stocked up! :-D GTX will work great for you, glad you made a decision!

Don't ignore Wal-Marts SuperTech synthetic!! I've seen a thread on here that it's process uses a special hydrocracker technique that will whip the pants of that Castrol GTX!! It's very available and a lot cheaper too in the long run, since you plan on changing oil every 3 months LOL

I bought and changed oil for the wife's riding lawnmower this last weekend. Wasn't Castrol GTX, it was made by Mobil though.

HMMMMM.. could it be Mobil runs out of stock because of a larger buying audience due to a superiority over Castrol? Just a thought...

Kidding mossad! A fine choice in either case...

I've heard some of you jokingly trying to sway my decision already.. Nope..won't work
