On my Silverado when I did the coolant change about a year ago the small hose from top of radiator going to top of tank would flow coolant. Now its not. Not cold or hot. I don't understand why? The truck doesn't overheat or anything so the water pump is working. Any reasons why its not circulating coolant through the tank anymore?

I noticed that on my saturn once. It has a "Degas" hose which is meant to hold pressurized air, but will take coolant just fine too. Runs from the top water outlet over to the surge tank.

Anyway, connected to the surge tank, it wouldn't pass coolant-- had the tank cap off. This air-lock was somehow preventing me from filling the system to spec. Disconnected this, left the hose hanging, ran the motor, suddenly coolant started streaming out.

Weird air-lock was my best guess. It "should" have burped the same attached to the tank. Surface tension?

I take it that you are checking it idling.

As the impeller wears through corrosion/cavitation, it becomes less effective at idle shifting water.

Just a guess, but I've seen pressed tin impellers that do nothing at idle (thermosiphon does the work) move heaps at 2,000RPM.
