My battery had a great run…..

Well after a fourteen year run the battery in my Nissan Titan said goodnight.
When my truck was a year old I took it to the dealer for a recall. While it was there they did their “complimentary” check and they determined that the factory battery failed their test so they replaced the battery under warranty.
I am beyond impressed with the longevity of this Nissan battery as I have never had a battery last this long.
What contributed to the life of this battery? The only thing that I can think of is usually having the battery tender on when the truck wasn’t being used.
I hope the new Costco battery gives me fourteen years!
I did have to buy a battery manufactured in February of 2026 however. The representative at Costco noted that the 27F isn’t a popular battery so the stock tends to sit longer.

I can not get more than 3 years out of a battery any more.
 
I don't know about 14 years, but I've never had a new OE battery that didn't last at least 10 years. OE is usually the way to go. Just curious: Why not pick up a new Nissan battery at the dealer?

The cam position sensor in my 2006 Chevy Aveo lasted 170K miles. The AutoZone replacement lasted 70K miles. The next AZ replacement lasted less that 6 months. Took it back and ordered an OE.

I thought about buying another Nissan battery but supposedly the 27F is back ordered, at least according to my local dealer.
 
Probably also speaks to the quality or health of the Nissan's charging system -- and might have something to do with being trickle charged.

Something about OEM batteries though, they all seem to last a long time. I have wondered if the ones at the stealership are the same that they use at the factory. Somehow I think they are not but I have never looked it up.

However the oldest battery I've ever owned was in a Prius fixer-upper I bought a few years ago. The car had about 260k miles and had blown the head gasket. That battery was also 14 years old and was still starting the car (even with a blown HG those Priuses tend to drive pretty well). But those Prius 12v batteries don't get called on for turning over the motor, either, so that might not be apples to apples.

14 years is awesome! The longest I've had one last is the original battery in my 2016 BMW. I replaced it in December 2025, just shy of 10 years old.
 
Judging from cap design looks like both batteries made by JCI/Clarios. I'd say regular battery maintainer use combined with (speculating) car mostly garaged when not in use and moderate clime all contributed to longevity. All that said, impressive nonetheless.
 
I got 14 years plus out of a factory Toyota 24F battery in my 2007 Tundra. It was daily driven, never put on a battery tender. I did check and add distilled water every 3 months...it always needed topping up. Was replaced with an Interstate flooded that is now about 5 years old...doesn't need water nearly as often. This one is holding up okay, but I try to put it on a Battery Minder tender at least a couple times a month for a full 24 hours.

Old battery was a JCI and new one is Clarios.

Battery Tender probably helped. And assume you are not in hot south. Also keeping the cells filled helps. And never leaving a light on to fully drain the battery.

I can verify that all you’re going to get from Nissan is a clarios with a Nissan sticker. Plus, it’s grossly overpriced. My wife’s battery failed in her 24 and they replaced it with a Nissan clarios agm, which is already losing capacity while the new Deka golds in my other cars are staying @100%. All 3 batteries in my cars were replaced 12/24 and all 3 are on maintainers daily. I blame the smart charging systems now days. I have two flooded and one agm, all using the same systems and the agm is widdling away. We drove her car 1800 miles and the battery tested @55% when we got home. It took 12 hrs on my battery minder to fully charge it.

You may be right about the OE manufacturers. I don't know. But something's wrong here. You shouldn't need to keep your daily drivers on maintainers daily. That's for sure.

Modern day charging systems to gain 1/100th of an mpg. About the only time you’re getting above 14 volts is when you first start the car and the occasional coasting. Everything else is in the 12.9-13.2 range. Folks would probably be amazed if they checked their batteries after a roadtrip with such a system. It will never run your battery down to dead, but never keeps it topped off.
 
Would be interesting to measure how much CCA rating is left on that. I'm guessing you live somewhere that doesn't get too hot or cold. In freezing climates, you probably need >60% of the CCA rating whereas if it's warm you can probably get away with 30-40% and not feel a difference.
 
3-4 years is the norm here in South Texas, supposedly the excessive heat under the hood kills them. The factory battery in my wife’s 4Runner lasted 6 years and that is the longest I have had one last. Fortunately I have a friend who owns a battery shop so I get mine for free or close to it. I am replacing the factory battery in my 2023 4Runner in the next couple of weeks with an AGM.
