I searched the internet on ref noises, nothing mentioned about barking noise but read that such noise could be icy build up in Evaporator fan. Work around is to defrost. Followed that, I turned it off overnight. The next day, turned it on and the noise is gone. Just to reach out to BITOGers don;t buy a new fridge yet, or call the service technician$, it's a simple fix :D

My fridge makes strange noise after running, but it’s working fine, 30 years old. I plan to run it to failure.

Is your fridge by chance on an exterior wall?
It's enclosed inside a refrigerator cabinet surround at the kitchen area. I believe the barking sound came from the Evap fan where the fan blades hits the icy build-up. Some may get a different sound depending on the structure of the ice build-up. Happy New Year to all

Our fridge does this when it’s very cold outside. It’s on an exterior wall in our kitchen and I’m guessing it gets too cold to function properly. It messes with the ice maker too.

"They don't make them like that anymore"....We bought our Maytag fridge new in 1998 and it's still running well. Today's fridges, washing machines etc...have too much 'electronics' which are often the cause of problems IMO.
