Mustang Mach-E outsells ICE Mustang in CY 2024!

Ford dropped the Mach-E price to increase sales, so yes, they are negative margins. How much? That depends on how you value the costs. Also, the gas version Mustang sedan had a down year.

Reasons?
  • R&D costs; EV development costs are high.
  • Price wars.
  • Shut down and re-tooling of the Mexico plant.
The numbers are all over the map, some say over $100K per vehicle. Ford is reengineering their EV manufacturing and hopes to turn a profit by EOY 2026.

As one of the few with the juevos to split their books we'll find out soon enough.

Incentives from Gov $$$$$$

Redesigned Mustang has terrible Subaru WRX style rear bumper with tons of ugly plastic.

2 door Mustang not practical if you have kids.
Where did Gov get the $$$? Socialism at its finest - take tax $ collected from everyone and give some of it to others.

The interesting thing here is how far the regular Mustang has fallen. The half-million-a-year sales numbers of the 1960s of course are long gone, but they did sell 122K as recently as 2015. Like the post above mine says, SUVs have eaten the Mustang's lunch.

I took heat on another forum for suggesting even the current "retro" phase Mustangs will grow stale and dated, and will need regular "refreshing" just like any other car. Looks like I was right.
If they priced it like they did in the 60s it would sell fine. It was meant to be an economy type car originally not a Corvette competitor

Yep. It was a sexy Falcon. Loved those early 'Stangs. Make mine a Snake!

Nope, I just don't believe in subsides. Products and markets should stand on their own.

Just my $0.02
It sounds good on paper or lets say when we have to compete against the Japanese.
But when we have to compete against a totalitarian state that uses literal slave labor and has ZERO environmental regulations a solution must be used.

Give the same government subsidies (rebates) and dealer discounts and it likely wouldn’t be close. Like it or not we are buying the EV market.

Just my $0.02

Agree, this is market distortion. Given one is a pedestrian 4 door sedan that doesnt deserve the Mustang name at all, I guess Ford couldnt think of a better one, Pinto would be good.

The Mustang Mach-E is made in Mexico; it does not qualify for the tax credit.
There are lotsa subsidies, both direct and indirect. Check out big oil subsidies... How much does it cost the taxpayer to patrol the Gulf?

Mach E, the most uncomfortable rear seat I had opportunity to sit on.
There is some pipe below that is positioned horizontally and you are basically sitting on it. I am just happy they didn’t positioned it vertically. It is FORD after all.
