I have a murray riding mower but it doesn't have a sticker or stamp saying the model of the thing. The sticker on the hood only says Murray 38" 12.5hp.
The engine is a 12.5hp Briggs & Stratton, Model 28T707 type 1113-E1, code 970718ZA.
the mower has a tecumseh peerless transaxle, MST-205-527A, serial 7169A00103.
From that info if anybody could figure out the model of the riding mower that would be awesome.
The thing sat in the woods for 2+ years, right now i'm a little unsure of the ignition switch. It has 6 spade terminals total. I don't have a key for it but i can use a flat blade screwdriver and operate it. It has 4 positions. Position 1 which i'm sure is off connects a ground wire from the frame/battery to the ignition coil. Unless the switch is faulty which would not surprise me, position 2 only connects two terminals and that circuit seems to be stator red wire to headlight red wire (stator red wire is always hot, it connects to battery terminal of key switch). The 3rd key position seems to not connect any terminal, so i'm guessing the switch is bad. 4th position is the springed position for start which runs battery pos to starter solenoid only.
My question is, if anybody is familiar with murray riding mowers and has a 4 position ignition switch, what are those 2nd and 3rd key positions supposed to be ?
And if anybody is knowledable about the two stator wires, is the one red one (which looks like it has a diode shrinktubed in the wire) the output and just runs into the positive side of the system and through the headlights? I do not see a rectifier or voltage regulator mounted anywhere on the mower. And the other wire from the stator which is white and goes by itself to one of the ignition key spade terminals, is it an AC output and should the key not connect it to anything?
