Multiple oil filters cut open

Had a hodgepodge of filters laying around so I thought finding the time to cut them all open at once. I'll start with the Subaru WRX oil filter thats from Tokyo Roki. This one was in service for over 5500 miles with the vehicle just shy of 35,000 miles. This thing spilled oil all over, the ADBV is working as expected. What a mess to clean up now haha.

Second filter is a Jobber Parts Plus PH2840 that came out of the recently purchased 2011 Yaris, pulled it out immediately after driving home from the dealership.

Probably the best looking jobber filter I've seen so far from my own two eyes, made in China, by Premium Guard.

Third filter is a Purolator Boss PBL20195, was used as a flush filter on the Yaris for 2 rounds of BG EPR for 30 minutes each, total of 1 hour of engine flush time. This tells me the car was well maintained by the previous owner as I found very little carbon chunks in the filter and how clean the oil came out.

Build quality really caught me by surprise, the media is very sturdy with lots of pleats. Bypass valve face is like a hard fiber material. Media stack is truly eye catching like that of a magazine centerfold. I might have to run one of these someday to see what kind of particle count would get out of this.

Some shark bites on the ADBV but not deep enough to puncture through

Thanks for the C&P. I see other filters in the second to last pic. Are ya saving those for another C&P?

Great looking filters & appreciate your use of Boss filter. Not letting bias get in the way of seeing for yourself just how nice these filters are. Thanks for posting these filters.

All look well made, like they did their job. In my observation post use Boss PBL anecdotes, always have looked well made. The potting color (cream/tan), different than other Puro US made filters. Can't recall noting that before. Adbv indentions from central part of it resting partially on inlet holes. Smaller applications don't have it because narrower in that area. As noted though, here not enough to cut through.

Thanks for c&p.

Luber Finer, PH488 came out of my neighbor's 2019 Chevrolet Spark. Cute car with such a big filter at least compared to Toyota and Honda s. Leaf spring was smooth and flat compared to the Endurance that came out of my WRX. Nitrile ADBV was hard and stiff.

FRAM Endurance FE9688, came out of the 2022 WRX, this was out of the car for a while since I got busy and lazy to post. Been sitting for about a month in the garage. Oil reeks of gasoline but the can was clean with virtually no deposits was running HPL PCMO 5W-30 for a little over 6000 miles. Same filter went back on with HPL SuperCar 5W-40 all ready for some spring and summer track days.

Media looks pretty mangled up but is in good health, posted a pic of the leafspring side by side of the two.

I thought the same exact thing about the spark I service. Its filter is bigger than my jetski and my Camry. It’s a little 1.4L and takes like 4.5 quarts of oil. I thought I received the wrong filters when I put in an order just due to the shear size.

I'm gonna need a second opinion on this, this is the media after a day of drying with absorbent towels. It seems like the media more than being mangled also got dislodged from the potting glue? Its hard to tell if its a tear but this filter has some strange attributes. It's pleat count is very low, counted 28 pleats. Wire backing might have saved this filter from completely failing though not exactly happy with how this came out. The previous oil filter that was before this was the OEM black can which came out fantastic looking compared to this.

Look at it with a good magnifying glass. You'll have to carefully prod around the pleat ends to see if it's obviously loose or not, hard to really tell in the photos.

It's pleat count is very low, counted 28 pleats.
Full synthetic with wire backing like this will typically have less pleats. Measure out the total media area ... what's the depth of the pleats?
