mule pro fxt oil light

Just got done with a few miles of governed top speed driving on smooth roads and after coming to a complete stop, my 2016 mule died and the oil light was on. I was close to the house thankfully, and it restarted without issue once the light went out (almost immediately). I checked the oil dipstick and the level was almost at the top of the cross hatched area. I know oil expands when hot, however what would cause this light to come on given the oil level was closer to high than low?

Is there an oil pressure/level sensor that could be bad? Other fluids are at the appropriate level. TIA.

It could be a bad oil sensor or it could be oil drain back issues on that engine. After extended spirited run some engines can run the oil slump low. Do you know if it is a pressure or level sensor? What is the oil capacity of that unit?

Thanks for the replies.

2.5 qts total capacity @Hirev

@97prizm How would I check that? I don't want to parts-cannon this thing.

Again, thank you!
There's a ton of videos on YouTube if you look up mower oil pressure sensor/switch testing with a multimeter. This should give you at least a starting point. There's an old bitog posting from memory that explains how the low oil light works, could be related to that as well. Check the oil pump( if possible) and see if it has and leaks.

Will do. I thought the level was low and triggered the light, but sure enough almost immediately when I got home and checked the level was definitely not low. Something to try and figure out (proceeds to scratch head).

Thanks again.

If no luck pm me and maybe I can help with a solution.

Clogged or defective oil filter? Oil became too thin at a higher than normal temperature causing pressure to greatly decrease? Been there, done that with a Lexus V8 (defective filter) and an Aprilia motorcycle (5w-40 became too thin when extra hot) oil lights lit up on both.

Thank you for this generous offer. I hope to not have to.

I hope not, but not something I considered! This is one of my first HPL runs….or second 😬 in the crankcase. The filter is either a Napa gold (old stock), or an amsoil but I can’t remember off hand. I will check this out at the next change - and likely cut (+/- the post part) to check it out.
