The coil on my chevy truck went bad. No big deal. Well the old could had 2 1/2 in bolts mounting it to the intake. The new coil doesn't have that it's just a coil by itself. What should I do?

May be vastly different, but I changed the coil on my 98 chevy for kicks and I recall needing to drill something out... Sorry Im not of more help.

There has to be some way to get the bracket off the old one.

Barring that, get some "universal strapping" from the lowes plumbing section... flexible metal full of holes. Run screws thru two good ones.

One of those old style coils, round - cylindrical shape? They are oil filled, so you don't want to pierce the can.

I just Googled images "ignition coil brackets", lots of stuff there. In a pinch, I'd do something with a couple of worm gear hose clamps and some sheet metal. It would be rough, but get you going.

Drill out the rivets or pins. Pull out the old coil put the new one in and use the screws to hold it in place.

I just filed them with a [censored] file. Took about 3 mins. Stupid design at least it's soft metal

Awesome. What year is the truck? I assume it is a TBI. Always check the gasket between the TBI and adapter. Mine would leak from time to time.

I did this job to a TBI Buick. The instruction manual from Accel told me to drill the rivets out for that model.

Maybe your manual was incomplete.
