Mounting A/C condensor in back of radiator???

I was just watching Horsepower TV. They're building a 55 Chevy. For clearance purposes, they had to mount the condenser in back of the radiator and the fans in front. Would that not render the A/C basically useless from radiator heat flowing through the condensor??? Or make the performance of the system not very good? I've never seen a system mounted that way.

wouldnt it just act the same as a normal car parked in a parking lot with the A/C on? air, from the fans, going through the radiator first before cooling the condenser...

Unless they are running a really low temp. thermostat, the AC won't work well. A/C is designed to have cool air flowing over the condenser. With a radiator in front, mostly hot air is reaching the condenser. I could work, but I'm skeptical about how well.

I've never seen an a/c condenser mounted this way. It's theoretically possible- but would require a larger condenser due to a lower temperature differential.

If that condenser was designed to be mounted in front of the radiator (and I'm sure it was), then the a/c system will probably work ok while cruising down the highway, but won't work well at idle.

They should have gone to the trouble of mounting the compressor in front like it ought to be.

No. Outside air still gets pulled through the condenser first.

no it does not. radiator fans blow, not suck. In said situation, it blows through the radiator first, then condenser

Yeah, he told me he's clueless. And has no idea how a cooling system works.

I've read some strange things on BITOG but this one is at the top of the list!

If you only have 1 place to mount the condenser, you only have one place to mount the condenser. It'll still work better than not having it.
