This is my first UOA and I would appreciate some feedback. According to Blackstone everything looks good, and for a motor with so many miles that runs at 20psi of boost and 7500rpm I have to agree

The Blackstone report that says 8100 0W40 is not correct, it is 8100 5W40.

Car: 1991 Talon TSi Turbo 118k miles, 2500 miles on oil.

ALUMINUM 2 2
CHROMIUM 1 1
IRON 14 14
COPPER 1 1
LEAD 1 1
TIN 0 0
MOLYBDENUM 2 2
NICKEL 0 0
MANGANESE 7 7
SILVER 0 0
TITANIUM 0 0
POTASSIUM 2 2
BORON 9 9
SILICON 11 11
SODIUM 4 4
CALCIUM 1118 1118
MAGNESIUM 728 728
PHOSPHORUS 690 690
ZINC 797 797
BARIUM 1 1

TESTED VALUES WERE:
SUS VISCOSITY @ 210F 70.4
FLASHPOINT 375
FUEL 0.5
ANTIFREEZE 0
WATER 0
INSOLUABLES 0.3

So does everything look good? Is the IRON and MAGNESIUM a bit high? I chaged the oil at 2500 because I was worried about fuel dilution but I don't think there is anything to worry about and will probably wait until 4000 miles for my next change. I have switched from the Motul to Esso XD-3 0W40 so I hope the next report is just as good

Well iron and silicon are slightly high for that milage. May be a problem with the air filter/intake duct area. Its not a real problem though. You should be able to go 4K miles.

Depending how far north you are you might not need the 40 wt.

Thanks for the feedback. A few questions:

A)Why do you think I don't need the 40wt? I do live in the cold north, but after 20mins of driving my oil temps are within a few deg. of what I see in the summer. For this reason I chose the 5W40 and now changed to 0W40.

B)Why do you say the Iron is high? This engine has 118k miles, makes 175HP/L (350HP from a 2.0L) and revs to 7500rpm daily. I have seen other used oil analysis of performance cars with far lower mileage on the engines that have way more Iron contect. Granted they had more miles on the oil but I still don't think mine would be higher. Check these out:

C)Does my used oil analysis indicate that I really have any internal wear issues or that I should be using a different oil?

Thanks

Your iron isn't bad, but isn't good either. The silicon does look high for 2500 miles. If you can get the silicon down, the iron will probably follow.

i take it you probably have a hacked aircan with a k&n? that probably explains the high silicon.. probably shouldve mentioned that in your post. and if you dont have a k&n on there, get one.

Ooops, I didn't know how detailed to make this post. I do have an open K&N cone filter on the car, as well as GM MAF, larger turbo, 650cc injectors, big intercooler, 3" exhaust, and more.

Do the K&Ns cause the silicon (is this dirt?) to go up?

Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't. I don't think anyone knows why one car with a K&N can show really low Si numbers, and another will show really high ones.

Silicon is usually dirt, but can be many other things.
